  • I'm not claiming the proposed name is great.

But, this is just another rumor. We also don't know what it means. I don't think it's just a random made up name. There's going to be a purpose or meaning to this one. It's too unusual to be just a new name. They'd let her be Piper Niven if that was the goal. It'll likely be a dumb purpose, like Kerwin White, or Kofi Kingston (which are both real sounding names, but were obviously forced for the gimmicks). But is Dewdrop any worse than Big E, The Miz, Sheamus, Ziggler, Otis, Boogs, Shotzi Blackheart? They are all either lame, boring, overly contrived, unmarketable or nonsense.

So until it's officially announced as her name, and if there's no explanation for it, then I'll agree they dropped the ball. But complaining about a rumor about something that seems obviously untrue or misunderstood.

The Chilly McFreeze fiasco comes to mind though.

    • I hear you on purpose, but with the names you mentioned.

Ziggler’s name was ridiculed when he first debuted with it, and it was a clear rip off and a play of Boogie Nights, and Dirk Diggler. But Ziggles made it work by his body of work.

The Miz, was originally, Mike The Miz Mizanan, but over the course of his career, he just went by his nickname, The Miz as many a wrestler does.

Big E, was originally Big E Langston, where the Big, was a classifier, and the E was a clear shortened first name. Then for some reason the WWE took away his last name, as they did with others and E was already established, so it worked. In a parallel to both E and Miz, it was like the Macho Man Randy Savage. Once he was established, most people only referred to him as Macho.

Otis, while not great, is at least a male first name and he also originally had a Polish sounding last name in Dozovic, where the name fit the build of the guy. No one questioned his name because it suited him. His name and build was like a big goofy bodyguard in a comedy, and it works for him. His name, gimmick, and look will never get him to the top, but his name and gimmick fits him very well.

Boogs….you got me on that one.

Shotzie does nothing for me in any way. I do not like her, her gimmick, the howling, the tank, nothing. And her name will not impact her in the long run, because I see her being released sooner than later. If she gets called up to the main roster, I predict she will flop hard, and quick.

but the biggest one where you are dead wrong about is Sheamus, Sheamus is a traditional Irish name that many Irish men have currently and throughout history. And prior to the WWE, in Europe and Ireland has was known as Sheamus O'Shaunessy which is as Irish as it gets.

      • What in the fuck is a "Boogs"?

        • You can defend all the names you like, Powder, but to many those names don't connect for many reasons. No different than Doodrop. And that's my point. Those names on their own aren't great. But you found ways why they work. Doodrop hasn't even been used except by some rando twitter feed, and you're claiming it as gospel. There might be meaning to it that will explain it, much like all the explanations you were able to find. But in the end, those names on their own aren't very good or marketable.

          • I know we're all having fun arguing about names, but can we take a moment to appreciate that working a really over gimmick and not having to wrestle a dangerous style means that at 67 people still remember and want to see Ted DiBiase, and he can still take a picture perfect flat back bump?

            A thing of beauty.

            • It's official...Piper's new name is Doudrop...since they filed for the trademark....

As noted, the former NXT UK Superstar made her RAW debut this week with the returning Eva Marie. WWE had announced Eva vs. Naomi for RAW, but Niven surprised everyone when she hit the ring and wrestled Naomi instead, dominating her for the win. Eva then took the mic and announced herself as the winner. Niven joined Eva at ringside and hugged her to celebrate the win, while Eva cringed and seemed annoyed by her new sidekick. It was later reported that WWE was considering “Doudrop” or “Dew Drop” as the new name for Niven.

In an update, WWE filed to trademark the “Doudrop” name on June 16. This indicates that they are moving forward with that as Niven’s new name.

The following use description was included with the USPTO (United States Patent & Trademark Office) filing:

“IC 041. US 100 101 107. G & S: Entertainment services, namely, wrestling exhibitions and performances by a professional wrestler and entertainer rendered live and through broadcast media including television and radio, and via the internet or commercial online service; providing wrestling news and information via a global computer network; providing information in the fields of sports and entertainment via an online community portal; providing a website in the field of sports entertainment information; fan club services, namely, organizing sporting events in the field of wrestling for wrestling fan club members; organizing social entertainment events for entertainment purposes for wrestling fan club members; providing online newsletters in the fields of sports entertainment; online journals, namely blogs, in the field of sports entertainment”

              • No. That's still not official. The fact that WWE trademarked it means they trademarked it. It doesn't mean it is to be used for Piper.

It's very likely for her. But in no way does it mean it's official.

                • Is anyone else comfortable with calling Lashley/McIntyre a top 5 Cell match?

                  Comment

                  • I can't say yes or no off the top of my head. There have been so many matches, most of them at least very good. So many of them I've only seen once, whereas HBK vs Taker I've seen 20 times (I watched my 1997 VHSs WAY too much back in the day).

Here's what I'll say: it's probably the best straight forward Cell match in recent memory. Usos vs New Day was great as a tag match, and Hardy vs Orton was brutal in a way no one expected. But for a pure dog fight inside a cage, I can't recall a better one than this in the last 10-15 years.

                    • What is the WWE waiting for with the entire Roman Reigns storyline?

Have the Usos win the Tag Team Championship, and also bring Naomi back to SD and have her challenge and beat Bianca for the SDWC.

I would love to see Naomi walk into Roman's locker room, and he says to her "I made some calls and brought you back over to my show. You are part of my family and you should be also carrying gold. You disrespect me by failing on RAW, so now, you need to go out and prove that you are a member of the family and win the SDWC."

Then the Family has all the gold.

                      • Isn't part of his whole thing that he doesn't want his other family members winning titles and wants to be the only one? I thought that Jimmy had said that if they win tag gold it'll make them all Tribal Chiefs and Roman too exception to that.

                        • I honestly am not sure. I have not seen a lot of SD recently....that could be true.

                          • Meanwhile on Raw.....

Riddle wins MITB. Lashley tries to intimidate Riddle much to the chagrin of Randy Orton who is starting to develop a (somewhat reluctant) big brother mentality over Riddle. This leads to an Orton/Lashley match at SummerSlam for the WWE Championship.

                            • And, we find out that the Doudrop name will have a purpose. Will it work out? Too early to tell, but it's not the dire death most online assumed it would be.

                              • Interesting way to introduce it, and when she inevitably turns on Eva she'll probably get a different name. Funny enough, when Cornette was laughing at the idea of the name, he said something as a joke that accidentally sold me on it.

He was riffing and made the joke "If she do drop on you, you'll know you've been dropped on," and immediately I didn't hate the name anymore. He was mocking it, but that line kind of sold me on it.

If they, and she, would just embrace that she's a big fucking girl and roll with it (and just accept that, as an overweight heel whose gimmick is that you're big fans are going to body shame you, pussy) lines like that would sell the hell out of that dumb name.
