  • Ugh. If this is what WWE's going to be doing for big matches in the no fans environment, I'm out.

That was awful. It was slow, over dramatic, too produced, and featured both one of the worst spots and camera angles I've ever seen.

That Air Raid off the buckle to the floor would never be possible safely in front of fans AND poorly edited so why do it? Nothing else was so far you couldn't do it in front of an audience. Then there was Johnny taking the DDT on the boards where they chose the camera angle that showed him like six inches off the floor.

I despise this "cinematic wrestling" shit. That was not a professional wrestling match, nor was the story they told all that great. It looked cool, that was it.

And for the love of god wrestling needs commentary. It was really jarring to suddenly just fade to commercial with no warning, and having someone screaming at the top of their lungs about what was happening might have made it more exciting.

They're trying to make it feel like a "real fight" without anyone but the ref there, while putting on something obviously fake.

Given how much of Raw is already on a screen, I don't put it past them to keep doing this shit when they're allowed to fill arenas again, either.

It gave me a real appreciation for how good Taker and AJ are on a level that Gargano and Ciampa simply aren't. Taker an AJ, before everything devolved into shovels and druids, had a really good realistic fight without the need for a bunch of bells and whistles. This match needed a half dozen spots that should hospitalize a guy for weeks and every gimmick in the book.

    • So, the NXT Cruiserweight tournament is like a mini BOSJ - two groups of four, round robin style.

      Group A:
Kushida, Drake Maverick (!), Tony Nese, Jake Atlas

      Group B:
Isaiah Scott, El Hijo Del Fantasma, Tozawa, Jack Gallagher

This thing looks like it should have some really good TV matches in it.

      • Wrestling for the sake of wrestling scares me. I know I'm in the minority online about this, but I really find storyless matches like this to be a lot less interesting. I understand it's a build in a tournament, so it'll eventually pick up some meaning. And I'm sure the matches will be good. But NXT Cruiserweight matches are good anyways.

Meh. Maybe it's the drama over the live vs taped stuff for WWE, the closed set programming. I just don't have interest in this. The CW division hasn't been all that interesting since Gulak was main eventing, and Tony Nese should be the divisions Hercules Hernandez (never champion, but puts others over).

Of that bunch, I hope Gallagher or Maverick get into the finals, if not win the title.

        • WWE really had me thinking they were building a nice comeback/redemption story for Drake Maverick by showing his Twitter video after his release and acknowledging everything that's happened, and even after his loss I think it could still happen.

          • I truly believe that when business is back to normal, or close to it, there will be hirings of the people who make the most of the release. Drake is a great performer, so it wouldn't shock me if he knows he'll get an offer, but he's putting on a show for the dirtsheets.

            • See, I was going to say the same thing, but then it dawned on me that I couldn't remember the last time Drake was on TV.

That's sort of the story of most of the releases. They weren't exactly staples of TV, and the roster is still plenty big to fill up house shows. Any No Way Jose, for example, costs them $1000 or more without a real return on investment every time he's on TV.

              • He is/was booked for the Cruiserweight tournament.

I wish this was the era of managers and referees being personalities, because Drake would be an amazing modern Jimmy Hart or Danny Davis. Smarmy tiny dude who will make a dick of himself for laughs, and ultra charismatic.

                • I still think the Maverick stuff is great tv. WWE should do more G1 type tournaments. They fill time, the matches actually mean something, and there are plenty of storyline opportunities.

                  • I don't know, I find something makes me feel a little uneasy about the whole Maverick stuff, when you know he's lost his job regardless.

                    • How do we know he's lost his job? It's entirely possible this was done with kayfabe mixed in. Or that it was for real, but the reaction to his video got him rehired. Or that they said "give it all you got, and something tells me this might work out for you"... so many options. Right now, it's the most interesting part of this tournament, so I'll enjoy every chapter in the story.

                      • If he's not lost his job, do you not think it's a little bit...Iunno...shitty to play off the emotions of his co-workers who have legitimately been let go just for a plot device?

This isn't Mick Foley being fired after No Way Out 2000.

                        • Maybe for them. As a viewer, it's not a factor for me. Plus, they should be professionals and understand. In the end, this story is working. That's their job.

                            • I saw Kross and Scarlett Bordeaux debuted last night, will have to check that out later on today.

                              • I skimmed the show and skipped what I didn't much care about. The two title matches were good -- though I wasn't in love with the main event -- and the package of Scarlett and Kross was great!

Everything that Adam Cole does is a finisher. Dream is getting close. At one point he hit Bray's finish full on in the middle of the match. It's not just spamming their own finishers. It's that all of their big, and even some of their small, moves are someone else's finish.
