  • Still no guesses....ok, a clue 4

    1. I have won only 7 titles in my illustrious career, but of those, only 2 came from a major promotion. (According to Wikipedia, but cagematch says I only won 6)
    2. In my first movie role, I am completely unrecognizable, which is ironic since I am primarily known for my appearance, and it was the reason I was cast..
    3. In my first major national feud, it resulted in my appearance getting altered.
    4. Of the 2 legendary and mythical aspects of my career attributed to me for a long time, 1 was a blatant lie, and the other was a manipulation of the truth.

      5. I was the inspiration for a movie that I was supposed to star in, but for 'health' reasons, it went to an NBA player instead.

        • YES!!!!

He won 5 titles in regional promotions, and 1 WWF Championship that he immediately surrendered, and 1 tag title with Haku.
His first movie was Conan the Destroyer where he played the monster at the end and was cast b/c of his size.
His first National feud was in the WWF where Big John Studd and Ken Patera cut off his famous long hair.
The 2 legendary and mythical aspects was being 'never body slammed prior to WM3' which was a blatant lie, and never being beat in 15 years, which is only true in the WWF, b/c he lost elsewhere.
And he was the inspiration for My Giant that Billy Crystal wanted Andre to co-star in, but his failing health and ultimate death made it impossible to do, so Crystal got Gheorghe Mureșan.

          • 1) I famously wrestled with an injury for the entire back end of my career
            2) I was a major main event star, but only held four total championships in national promotions
            3) I was a multi-sport Hall of Fame athlete, including pro wrestling.

                • Hmm.... every main event star I can think of probably held more titles than that, regionally. Struggling here.

But I'll guess some names to get them out of the equation. Ernie Ladd? I hear he had bad injuries for a long time.

                        • Paul Orndorff?

For clue 1 I wasn’t thinking of the nerve damage and atrophy in his arm at first. Was thinking more along the lines of Bob Orton and the cast. If I hadn’t thought of Orton I may not have landed on Orndorff though

                            • It is Orndorff!

I was referencing the nerve damage/bicep atrophy. Despite being a main even star in the 80s, the only titles he won on a national level were the WCW TV and Tag Team Titles.

He is in the WWE, NWA and Professional Wrestling halls of fame, as well as the University of Tampa Football Hall of Fame.

And finally he main evented WrestleMania 1 in '85, turned to team with Hogan after Orton cost them the match, only to turn on the egotistical heel bastard Hogan and ignitor the 1986 feud of the year.

                              • Sweet.

                                1) I was involved in an invasion angle that kicked off at a house show.
                                2) My combined match time across the first two WWF PPVs I was booked on is a whopping 90 seconds.
                                3) I held NWA, WWF, and WCW straps
