  • October 2nd: Who Won the Night?

Might do this for a while, for a bit of fun. I don't want a reasoned argument taking into account various stats, or a number of factors, or what have you. I want your gut reaction, about which show you personally enjoyed more. Nothing more, nothing less.

So, for Wednesday October 2nd, who won the night?
    7
    AEW Dynamite
    42.86%
    3
    WWE NXT
    57.14%
    4

    The poll is expired.

This has been discussed at length throughout the NXT and AEW Dynamite Threads.

I know. It's for the poll in one place, not necessarily for more discussion (though people can chat again if they want to).

You can leave the modding to the team, mate - we know what we're doing!

In terms of ratings, AEW, hands down. Probably same for atmosphere, though that's a close call. It was easily the best thing AEW have put out for my taste.

In terms of quality, well that's up to opinion. Mine is that NXT did a much better job making me want to tune in next week, and had the better matches.
        So I voted NXT.

In time, I think the ratings will even out, and I believe the WWE promotional machine will give NXT the ratings advantage over time. But as long as both shows continue with quality TV regularly (I never expect all the shows to be amazing), we have nothing to complain about.

That said, I only have so much time to watch wrestling, and I think ROH/Impact/MLW are going to struggle in the near future. NWA likely as well. I currently marathon MLW and Impact shows once every 2-4 weeks to catch up, while ROH has made it easy by putting on a terrible TV product, but superior special events/PPV, so I only tune in for those.

This is more the reasoning that I was after in the poll, because it's a more interesting question. The numbers is really simple to work out and anyone can judge it off that immediately. But the other is a trickier proposition.

On a ratings level, AEW won. I think the numbers I saw was almost a half million more viewers than NXT. General consensus I’ve read so far is NXT won, though. In the class and respect department, WWE wins hands down, though. There’s a report on the main page saying WWE sent out a congratulatory message specifically naming AEW. I find that quite interesting. Of course, they (WWE) also went on to say the fans were the real winners, and how it’s a marathon, not a sprint.

NXT delivered a better show, for me.

It'll be interesting to see how AEWs ratings hold over the coming weeks. NXT pulled 1.1 million viewers for their first week, and there's potentially a 'new shiny thing' spike for AEW this week. As such, I'm not sure whether we hold much weight to the ratings, aside from the fact that it's a very good number for their first show.

No matter what, it's a great number. I do agree that they won't hold that number after the first episode, but it should be noted that their debut with WWE drawing in as much as they did was higher than NXT's debut WITHOUT Dynamite at the same time. I'm sure part of that 1.4 bounced to USA and back, but it's still noteworthy. I think NXT will get the lead in time, but it might be longer than I originally predicted.

NXT for me, but by no means was AEW a bad show, far from it. Simply put, one show looked like they had been doing this for years, the other, not so much. By 'this', I mean a TV production.

NXT by a mile. AEW has a lot of promise, but have a ton of room for improvement imo.
