Default Cover song thread...

This was fun in the past. So I thought I would start it again. What are some of your favorite cover songs, even parody songs that you like.

I will start with a couple punk covers first:

MxPx - Summer of '69 ... (Bryan Adams)
MxPx - Take On Me ... (A-ha)

Reel Big Fish's Take on Me is better.

Anything from early Me First works for me. I haven't really been able to get into their last couple albums, except Ruin Johnny's Barmitzvah.

I'm just into punk covers right now. I love almost all of the ones I have heard. Including a version of leaving on a jet plane.

Stretch Arm Strong covering Counting Crows 'Angels Of The Silences' is amazing. The Atari's cover of 'The Boys Of Summer' is a good one. Obadiah Parker's acoustic cover of Outkast's 'Hey Ya' is a real gem, as well. And I'm pretty sure it's a general consensus that Johnny Cash's cover of 'Hurt' is the best cover song ever. Seriously, Trent Reznor went on record saying that it's no longer his song after Cash tore it up.

Do the majority of people even know that Hendrix didn't write Watch Tower? Obviously anyone with any musical sense knows this, I'm just wondering if Joe Schmo listening to the radio does. The same goes with other songs such as 'I Will Always Love You'. (Dolly Parton covered by Whitney Houston)

Check out the Punk Goes Crunk album. I believe that's where it came from. It's got a great cover of 'Still Fly' by The Devil Wears Prada also.

The "Punk Goes Crunk" album has maybe...like, 3 good songs on it.

Say Anything covering Ol Dirty only works because he's the whitest fucking kid ever and his delivery makes the song.

You're close. There's four good ones. The first song...Throw Your Hood Up by someone (Set Your Goals, maybe?), The Devil Wears Prada song, The New Found Glory cover of Tennessee and the aforementioned Say Anything.

It is indeed, Set Your Goals. Funny, you picked exactly the 4 I liked. Saddens me, because the Scary Kids Scaring Kids one is just garbage.

"Notorious Thugs"? I just heard their cover, and I have no idea what to say. I give them props for even having the balls to try that song, though.

Correct.

Thread's gone quite a ways without anyone mentioning "Hurt", which wasn't a Johnny Cash song, folks.

Also, the second best Cash cover is Dave Matthews and Emmylou Harris doing "Long Black Veil".

Screw it, I've been on a huge Mastodon kick so I'll go with a couple of their covers:

Mastodon "Orion" (Metallica)
Mastodon "The Bit" (The Melvins)
Mastodon "Just Got Paid" (ZZ Top)

----------------
Now playing: Mastodon - Just Got Paid

No one's mentioned any reggae covers???????

Sublime - Smoke 2 Joints (Bob Marley)

Also, I just got hold of Easy Star All-Stars' 'Radiodread', which is basically the entire OK Computer album done in dub reggae. I recommend it.

Another cover I really like is The Killers' 'Lovesong' (The Cure).

I thought Korn's "Word Up" was pretty good, in a weird sort of way.

Others:

Oasis- Feel the Noise(Slade, Quiet Riot)
AFI- My Michelle(Gun's and Roses)
AFI- Head Like A Hole(NIN)
AFI- Last Caress(Misfits)
AFI- Halloween(Misfits)
Tool- Demon Cleaner(Kyuss)
Tool- No Quarter(Led Zeppelin)
Corrosion of Conformity- Lord of this world(Black Sabbath)
Slayer- Everything they covered on Undisputed Attitude.

I have alot more, but I think that will do for now until I dig through the old Ipod.

Johny Cash; Hurt

Motorhead; Enter Sandman

Judas Priest's version of Johnny B Goode is just about the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard.

On a more serious note, Hendrix' "All Along The Watchtower" and Van Halen's "You Really Got Me" take some beating for me.

Live Lounge (British radio show) is good for this stuff. Artists normally come in and completely reinterpret songs and make them acoustic. My music tastes are a bit smoother but:

Biffy Clyro - Rihanna's "Umbrella"
Paramore - Kaiser Chief's "Love's not a competition but I'm winning"
Natasha Bedingfield - Snow Patrol's "Chasing Cars" and Coldplay's "The Scientist"

Non-Live Lounge:

Lily Allen & Mark Ronson - Kaiser Chief's "Oh My God"

There's a thousand more but can't be bothered going through all my playlists.
