![]() Revamping The Royal Rumble. So as soon as i heard your concern about all the talk going around about how the rumble is getting boring, it clicked in my head. And I have a good idea on how to revamp the rumble. Ahem. Vince McMahon, I give you the Revamped Royal Rumble. New Rules: 1. There are still 30 men. However, 15 of those men will have their name thrown into the regular tumbler. The other 15 men will choose a name out of the tumbler at random. This person will be their partner for the new rumble. If you get someone you like, great. If not, tough shit. 2. There will be no trading of partners. 3. 15 names are thrown into the tumbler. One member from each team takes a number. That is the number that they come out. 4. Teams number one and two come out, and battle royal style commences. 5. Entrances and time between entrants work the same way, with one team coming out every 2 minutes. 6. If you or your partner is eliminated, your whole team goes back to the lockerroom. 7. Once there are two teams left the match goes into a tag team match, with regular pin/submission rules applying. 8. The team who wins the tag team match will then go one on one with each other, with regular pin/submission rules applying. 9. The winner of that match will be the Royal Rumble winner and will go onto Wrestlemania to get a World Title match of his choosing. His partner whom he defeated in the one on one match will get to enter himself into a Intercontinental, United States, or Tag Team Title Match. If the wrester does not want to challenge for any of those title, they may get a free pass to the Money In The Bank Ladder Match. Scenario: Here are the 15 teams. Jack Swagger/Triple H Shawn Michaels/Santino Marella Chris Masters/R-Truth Chris Jericho/Goldust Christian/Cody Rhodes Randy Orton/Rey Mysterio John Morrison/William Regal Ezekial Jackson/Undertaker Ted DiBiase/JTG Miz/Mark Henry MVP/Drew McIntyre John Cena/Evan Bourne Sheamus/David Hart Smith Tyson Kidd/Edge Shad/Batista Order of Entrances: 1. Masters/R-Truth 2. Miz/Mark Henry 3. Shawn Michaels/Santino Marella 4. Ezekial Jackson/Undertaker 5. Shad/Batista 6. Randy Orton/Rey Mysterio 7. Tyson Kidd/Edge 8. John Morrison/William Regal 9. Ted DiBiase/JTG 10. Sheamus/David Hart Smith 11. Chris Jericho/Goldust 12. John Cena/Evan Bourne 13. Triple H/Jack Swagger 14. Christian/Cody Rhodes 15. MVP/Drew McIntyre Order of Eliminations: Miz is throw over the top rope, so Miz/Mark Henry are gone. Ezekial is thrown out, so Taker/Zeke are gone. R-Truth is gone, so is Masters. Santino is gone, as is HBK. Regal is eliminated, Morrison goes with him. JTG and Sheamus eliminate each other, their teams hit the showers. Chris Jericho eliminates his partner on accident. Jericho is eliminated too. Swagger gets thrown over the top rope, Triple H joins him. Cody Rhodes eliminates himself after a fight with Christian. They are both gone. Tyson Kidd is thrown out, Edge goes back. MVP and McIntyre eliminate each other by fighting. They're gone. Batista is thrown out, so Shad is gone. Final two teams: Randy Orton/Rey Mysterio and John Cena/Evan Bourne. Randy Orton/Rey Mysterio defeat Cena/Bourne. It is then Randy Orton vs. Rey Mysterio, with Orton beating Mysterio. Orton Challenges for the WWE Title, while Rey puts himself in the Money In The Bank Match. So the key is, not only do you have to look out for yourself in this, you also have to be keeping an eye on the safety of your partner. There will be the occasional instances where a tag team winds up being partners, or friends. But there could be other instances, like Kofi Kingston and Orton, who hate each other, winding up on the same team. It's random and crazy, and has the grounds to be entertaining. Just like with the current rumble, stamina and conditioning are everything. If you make it past the 13 other teams, you are then in a tag team match. If you win that, you are then in a one on one match. As for time, it should still go around the same amount of time. If there are two minutes inbetween entrances, then that gives a total of 26 minutes for all the teams to enter. After that, give about 10 minutes to get the teams eliminated until you're down to 2 teams. That puts us at 36 minutes. A 10-14 minute tag match sets us up to 50, and following a 10-15 minute singles match, you have a grand total of 60-65 minutes. Get it? Got it? Good. Lock this shit up Sheepy, no one's got a chance after this masterpiece.

Interesting concept, it's like if you held a new age version of the Lethal Lottery. Only downside, as much as I loved the Battlebowl format from years past I think this type of format would complicate matters. As a viewer, trying to remember 15 thrown together tag teams could be a bit hard though. Definitely in idea that I think looks better on paper than it could be executed. At least with the Lethal Lottery you only had to focus on 2 thrown together tag teams at a time, and by the time the Battle royal portion came around it was every man for himself. Sometimes simpler is better, otherwise you end up with the King of the Mountain match.
Good luck in the tourney.

Man, I loved lethal lottery. It was the first WCW PPV VHS I bought. I thought the idea was a very good, interesting one although presentation was a bit basic. It is hard to get too creative in 1000 words though. Good job.

Seems basic enough to understand while being... not basic? I don't know lol, but it'd be cool. It would also have the advantage of having dream teams, matching up rivals or reuniting tag teams which would be a lot of fun.
Best of luck Glace.

I liked this concept. Whilst it has a different finish, it's not too clusterfuck-esque. I like the dilemma for the wrestlers - do they let their partners get beat up so it's easier to beat them in the final, or do they save them with the risk of them being fresher than they are at the end.
Good column with a great idea.
