Default Christmas Music (or any other winter holiday songs)

Do you like listening to Christmas (or any other winter holiday) themed songs? If so, bring it up here.

I like to listen to a good amount of Christmas jams, but not all the time. "Blue Christmas" by Elvis Presley, and "White Christmas" by both Bing Crosby and The Drifters are a must every year for me.

^Word. I usually don't like the traditional christmas songs because they are played in every damn store around this time. But I like a few of the Christmas songs performed or covered by R&B or Soul artists.

"I Won't Be Home For Christmas" - Blink 182.

Is a bit of an Anti-Christmas song but eh, it's about Christmas.

How about some Rolf Harris? Mr Wobbleboard himself.

That's surprisingly catchy.

The first 14 songs of disc one (most of the standards) on "Now That's What I Call Christmas!" are great. I cannot stand the last four songs. The Carpenter's "Merry Christmas Darling" is my second-least-favorite Christmas song ever. "Christmas Shoes" (Christmas' answer to "Butterfly Kisses") is my least favorite and is on neither disc.

Disc 2 (Boyz II Men, Lennon, McCartney, etc.) makes a dandy coaster. It's not that bad, but once a year is plenty for most of those "newer" (i.e. 20 -30 years old rather than 50) songs for me.

I recently heard the Bitter Hearts' "12 Days". It's an enjoyable if not depressing tale of a Christmas breakup. Lyrics include things like, "On the first day of Christmas my true love took from me... a love I thought would never die" and "On the fourth day of Christmas, my true love gave to me... four empty bottles of wine..." I could hear Pete Steele singing it.

Robert Earl Keen's "Merry Christmas from the Family" is good for a few listens and laughs. The "Twelve Redneck Days of Christmas" is too if you go the Tim Wilson route and by-pass Jeff Foxworthy's version.

Pat Godwin's Christmas album "Reindeer Games" had it's moments. Still, for Christmas comedy, you have to go with Bob Rivers and Twisted Radio's "I Am Santa Claus". The "Iron Man" parody is awesome, but the rest of the album is funny too. "Walking Around in Wonen's Underwear", "Didn't I Get This Last Year?" and my favorite "O Little Town of Bethlehem" (to the tune of "House of the Rising Sun") are great.

It's more of a New Year track than Christmas, but 'This Will Be My Year' by Semisonic is one of my favourite all-time tracks.

If you want holiday classics, you can't go wrong with Frank Sinatra's "A Jolly Christmas from Frank Sinatra." That was a 1957 release, and every track is just excellent. Tony Bennett's album has some good swing charts, too.

Anybody heard Stephen Colbert's Christmas album? Full of funny.

However, I will maintain that Barbra Streisand sings the best Christmas song ever - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z2lRSk0MWAY - it's so frantic and fun!

We bouight all the kids in my family Ren & Stimpy's "Crock O' Christmas" CDs years ago. They were $2 at Big Lots or something like that. The songs are weird, even by R&S standards, but a lot of fun for fans of the show.

^Who's judging? A classic Christmas song by an excellent band.

I end up making Christmas compilations every year, And the following are a few songs that ALWAYS make the cut:

Trans-Siberian Orchestra featuring Metallica - Carol of the Bells
Wham! - Last Christmas
The Chipmunks - Christmas Song (I've liked it since I was little, I don't care what any of you think)
Vince Guaraldi Trio - Christmas Time is Here
John Lennon - Happy Christmas (War Is Over)
Brenda Lee - Rockin' Round the Christmas Tree
Jackson 5 - Up On the Housetop
Beethoven - Greensleeves
Don McLean - Jingle Bell Rock (the original)
Bing Crosby - White Christmas
Eartha Kitt - Santa Baby

Definitely "Santa Baby" by Eartha Kitt.

Took a long time to get "Christmas in Hollis" on the board.

If you know the words, sing along:

"It's Christmas time/
In Hollis, Queens/
Mom's cookin' chicken/
And collard greens"

I just picked up a Christmas CD by Straight No Chaser today--well, downloaded from Amazon--and it's quite good. If you like a capella, give it a whirl. There's even a couple of original Christmas songs that are pretty awesome, and it's only like $7 right now.

How did not one of you mention Wizards of Winter by Trans SIberian Orchestra?

Anyways I like many of those already mentioned. But then like almost all christmas music.

My absolute favorite: Your a Mean One, as sung by Thurl Ravenscroft.

I hate any of them that change the traditional melody in a negative way. Ruins the song for me if they make it sound stupid.
