![]() Thanks to Romeo for the banner. Bound For Glory is this Monday (Australian time of course) and it's time to get excited, it only seems like yesterday that I was hyping myself up for the likes of Joe vs. Sting and Angle vs. Jarrett I from last year. While the theme for that BFG and the amount of video packages they used to promote that theme was cool, I have liked the lack of theme for this one. It seems more realistic than having your top dogs, who are to face each other mind you, walking around as gangsters together. BFG isn't just about TNA fans though, it's an event where all wrestling’s fan can be entertained and maybe even permanently cross the liner. Let's take a look at what BFG means to a potential line crosser: Quote:
Even though SkittelZ doesn't think much of BFG, a lot of people out there do and I am one of them. Bound For Glory is TNA's Wrestlemania, but it's much more than just the biggest show of the year. Bound For Glory 2007 was monumental in many ways, not only was it one of TNA's best Pay-Per-View's ever, it was the first time TNA had done a show outside of Orlando. In its short history, BFG has been the host to many great matches; Joe/Christian, Angle/Sting, Angle/Jarrett, LAX/Phenomenal Angels and Lethal/Daniels just to name a few. What really makes BFG different to me is the actual continuation from one to the other, mainly last years to this year’s event. It was last year’s BFG where the main event mafia practically started, it was last year’s BFG where Beer Money were feuding with Team 3D and it was just after BFG last year where Eric Young became serious and slowly transformed into a heel. Ok the last one wasn't at BFG, but it was pretty close. BFG being the start, and now finish of storylines is so cool in my book, it makes it seem even more like the biggest show of the year. But what makes BFG special is the fans. Fans come from all over the globe to watch Bound For Glory and proof of that was in BFG 07's fanfest. Watching then obnoxious and somewhat annoying Don West have fun with fans was funny to watch. Imagine what he'd do if he was in character at a current fan fest.... Best not to think about that, let's just get on with the card. ![]() I was a bit shocked when I saw that this match was taking place, that's because I missed the part of Impact that announced it but never the less, I was shocked. The main reasoning behind this match is that Eric Young wants to take Hernandez out for not joining his group, who better to do that then a member of The Main Event Mafia, considering they are alliances and all. Even though that alliance has been rocky lately, Nash will do anything for money and that's how Eric Young got this match going, through money. Personally, I think the build up between Eric Young and Hernandez was too strong to make it into a three-way involving Nash. On the other hand, the biggest show of the year needs to have all your titles involved in one way or another and this is the perfect way to get Kevin Nash, and The Legends Title for that matter, on the card. It allows a big name to be on the card, yet it will mostly be two good workers carrying the load. Also, who wouldn't get a kick out of Hernandez throwing Nash? I know Hernandez can do it; the question is whether Nash will be able to take the bump. Winner: Super Mex all the way. I think Bound For Glory will be the demise of The Main Event Mafia and Kevin Nash losing his title will add to that demise. + Amazing Red - X Division Championship.Excuse me for the added words, but up until last night this match was a number one contender’s match for the X-Division title. Then something amazing happened, something exciting happened, something exhilarating happened... Don West returned as Amazing Red's manager! Now watching the over enthusiastic Don West cheer along Red against Suicide was quite hilarious, so was the image put in our minds by Mike Tenay of West jumping up onto the announce table to cheer him on. I think I saw an animated picture of that but it has been lost. After Red's match with Suicide, he turned this Fatal Fourway Ultimate X number one contenders match into a five man Ultimate X match. Why would West do that though? Sure, he loves seeing Red in action, but I think a swerve might be coming. I'll get on to that later. The match quality here should be nothing but great. All these guys fit the bill of the Ultimate X match and should have no problem producing many high spots to warm the crowd up for what’s to come. I don't really want to go on to much as I'd be repeating myself, but this should be a fun match. Winner: Now I'm not too sure why I think this, I mean Dinero is good on the microphone, but I predict that Don West will turn on Amazing Red and help Dinero win. Maybe that's just me wanting Don West to be a heel again, but it's what I'm going with. DON WEST FOR LIFE! ![]() With the loss of Angelina Love to The Beautiful People, this feud looked this be gone but that was not to be as these lovely women had a plan up their sleeves. Even after all they had done to her, Madison Rayne had found it in her heart to team up against Velvet Sky to take on the team of Sarita and Wilde at No Surrender. Unfortunately for them, they didn't win and it seemed that maybe The Beautiful People's reign of terror would be over in TNA. That was until the Lacey Von Erich joined up with them in a brilliant near turn that was done brilliantly. Now I don't know much about Lacey Von Erich, but she does fit The Beautiful People's mould of being beautiful. From what I have seen, she isn't much of a wrestler though and that's only judging by a clothesline she hit in her debut segment. Either way, it is good to see The Beautiful People still up and running and to start off, they are picking on an old target in Taylor Wilde while still going after the titles. Winner: Madison Rayne and Velvet Sky will probably win as the tag titles were made for The Beautiful People in their prime to hold, will this be a matter of TNA trying to capture that? We'll wait and see. ![]() Now this is the match that hopefully kicks off the feud everyone has been dreaming about since Tara came to TNA; Awesome Kong vs. Tara. The seeds for a singles feud was planted a month or so back in a battle royal and since then, random attacks from Kong has provoked Tara to fight back. Just recently, during a match for The Knockout's Tag Team Championship, Kong came to attack Tara and Tara fought back, this left ODB on her own to fight the champs. ODB was not happy and in the weeks ahead she would defend her title against both Kong and Tara, in these matches either Kong or Tara would interfere. This match is most likely another situation of wanting to put a well built feud on Bound For Glory while still having the title defended. I am kind of concerned that the title will be put on either Kong or Tara to elevate their feud when it's not need; ODB has been over for a long time now and she should get a healthy reign with the belt. No matter what the result, this match should be good as these three are more than capable of putting on a good match and the eventual Tara/Kong standoff that this match will produce is sure to be quality. Winner: I'm going to go with Tara here as I feel that TNA want the title on either Kong or her for a singles feud between the two. It'd work best if Tara is champion so that Kong can attack her instead of it being the other way around. ![]() Now this is a feud that can be traced back to Bound For Glory IV when Beer Money and Team 3D where facing each in a four team monsters ball match. Since then, 3D and Beer Money have been involved in one way or another; whether it be showing mutual respect to each other, trying to capture world tag team domination, participating in 3D's tag tournament or fighting against both The World Elite and The Main Event Mafia, 3D and Beer Money have been involved in one way or another. Recently, it seems that the two teams who started off feuding against each other are the only two that can get along as The World Elite's alliance with The Main Event Mafia has crumbled which was quite interesting to see. I thought having youngsters like Magnus and Williams working alongside, and now against, Booker T and Scott Steiner was a good way to elevate them. Another thing that's potentially interesting, and not necessarily in a good way, is the potential quality of the match. So many questions are to be answered about Scott Steiner’s health and Booker T's motivation. We know that 3D can go when it comes to hardcore matches but climbing the ladder does seem like a problem for them so it will be down to mostly Beer Money and The British Invasion to take the big bumps. I'm also predicting a brawl through the crowd, what Team 3D match under hardcore rules would it be without one? Winners: It's time for The British Invasion to get a shot at TNA tag team glory, they have been hot for months now and it would be fresh for the division if they won. ![]() Now this is where the quadruple main events start. This feud has been talked about since Foley came to TNA and it has come to be in a very strange, but normal way. I say that as anything normal for these two would be just wrong, it's kind of fitting that a ripped picture is what sparked a Foley heel turn on Abyss. Now the last time Foley was heel, he was bat shit crazy using everything in his power to get what he wanted. His promo's have sort of resembled that heel run but this feud has had more ingredients to it; Abyss saving Foley from Nash, Abyss costing Foley a match and Dr Stevie all have added to this feud nicely. While I had a feeling TNA were going to do this feud at least once, I feel stupid for not predicting the actual turn from Foley up until he was looking for who destroyed his beloved picture. This has the potential to be a real show stealer of sorts. Judging by Mick Foley's no disqualification match against Nash a month or so ago, he still has the ability to wrestle hardcore style matches and a Monsters Ball match is pretty much Abyss' signature match. Expect a lot of blood, barbwire, glass and thumbtacks in this one as Foley will want what could possibly be his last match to be a good one. Cactus Jack has appeared twice in TNA so far; one when Mick Foley was interviewing and against Sting at Lockdown, with the way Foley has been acting lately and the stipulation of the match, I'm guessing that he'll appear again. Winner: It makes no sense to have Foley win here, Abyss needs the win and this could finally elevate him back up to what he used to be. ![]() Now here's a feud that I don't understand; Joe is apparently not happy about Lashley not joining The Main Event Mafia yet he attacks him about 4 weeks to late. That in turn sparked The Boss to cost Samoa Joe his X-Division title and since then, Joe has been psycho. Over the past few weeks, and not without the help of Rhyno, Joe has one upped Lashley and has definitely softened him up for BFG. I also believe this match is just a last minute match to get both Lashley and Joe on the card. The real match I want to see, and I think TNA were going for, was Angle vs. Lashley seeing as he is The Godfather and the one who got betrayed by Lashley. I think that TNA were surprised at how over Morgan got and decided to give him a shot against Angle, this left Joe and Lashley to fight against each other. Has Lashley ever used a submission when it comes to professional wrestling? I know he's an MMA fighter and all, but making this match a submission match probably means that this match won't be all that it can be. I wanted to see this match as a straight up match due to both their styles, but this could now be the disappointment of the card. These two have looked good in the brawls they've been involved in as of late, so if there's a decent brawl during this match, then it might be ok. We can just hope for the best. Winner: This match is classed as TNA vs. MMA, would TNA let MMA defeat TNA? On the other hand, they are most likely paying Lashley a fair bit of money, so why have him lose if that's the case? Lashley to win. ![]() This is the match is the most I've anticipated a match ever. Ever since Morgan said he wanted to be in the Main Event Mafia, everything done has been awesome. His in-ring ability has improved and the short run as a heel has allowed him to develop this arrogance that also goes nicely with him being a face. As for Angle, he's Angle in this feud, there's not much more I can really say. His usual mind games and stringing people along has really helped stretch this feud out, it would have been so easy just to have Morgan join the mafia, but they waited it out until this big payoff. This feud has also elevated Morgan heaps, in recent weeks he's pinned Mick Foley and had Kurt in trouble a few times. He also fought side by side against the Mafia which got him very valuable T.V time early on during this feud. This feud is extremely close to being the feud of the year for me; it all comes down to the payoff. These two have only fought once before and that's when they were still friends. It was a very good match in which Morgan dominated Angle and almost beat him on more the on occasion. This match was a defining match for Morgan, it was the match where I stood up and took notice of him and now on Pay-Per-View, he has his chance to make everyone stand up and take notice of him. This match should be awesome; with Angle's ability and Morgan's recently found charisma, it's the perfect mix. Winner: If Morgan loses, we riot. ![]() This is the match I predicted a month or so ago. However, it didn't happen in the way I would have liked it to. It starts with AJ losing his Legends Title and a best of three series against Matt Morgan. All of a sudden, AJ starts crying about bad form and says he should be retiring. Sting came out and stopped him and got him back into form, so much that he found himself in the No Surrender main event. Then, in a very cool moment, it was Sting and AJ standing in the ring with Kurt Angle on the ground, what happens next? Sting goes to "finish off" Matt Morgan while AJ wins the world title. Since then, AJ has questioned Sting's will to win and the promos have been quite interesting. I haven't even mentioned the fact that this match might be Sting's last. That alone, if you’re a little Stinger, is worth the price of Bound For Glory. The emotion in this match alone should make it good. Add in the fact that AJ Styles is AJ Styles and that Sting will want to put on a show in his last match and we have a potential classic. Sting always lifts at Bound For Glory, his matches against Jarrett, Angle and Joe have all been great and this should be no different. Like HBK did for Flair, sort of, AJ will want to give Sting the best possible match to go out on, and he hopefully he will. Winner: Sting has talked a lot about passing the torch, now’s the time to pass the torch. AJ to retain his title. So that's the card for Bound For Glory and what a card it is. Every match on this card has the chance of being at least decent although I'm not expecting a lot from the Knockout's tag team match. Going by the fact that it's Bound For Glory makes this probably my most anticipated Pay-Per-View of all time. I've followed the storylines since Bound For Glory 08 and it's time for closure on them. Bound For Glory V won't be about starting new feuds, it will be a passing of the torch event. Abyss, Matt Morgan, AJ Styles and The British Invasion will all (from my predictions anyway) have the torch passed to them. *Husky Voice*

Hey BCR, this was great! A good prediction column on something not WWE is quite refreshing. I'm not sure if you've done a TNA PV prediction column before, but it's the only one I've seen recently so you've got something great and (slightly) unique to work on!

I haven't watched TNA in ages, but I still managed to read this all the way through without losing interest. It was cool how you recapped the storylines, as I'm not up to date on TNA current affairs and needed to know just what the hell is going on! I might even watch this event now, you've got me in a pretty good TNA mood, so props.
My main criticism is that it lacked a little bit of polish, as there were a couple of dodgy sentences and missing words here and there, but apart from that it was a good, safe column that served it's purpose well.

Excellent job on this column. Anytime you can get someone who was not interested in TNA or just disenchanted with TNA to actually buy a PPV, you know that you have done a good job.

Y'know, sometimes I wonder if you super-TNA marks are working the lot of us. If so, you're very, very good at it.

I just don't know what il do if Morgan loses. Its the real main event for me. I also love a good spot-fest so can't wait for the Ultimate X.
I think you are right and this whole ppv theme is passing the torch. Except for British Invasion. I think Team 3D may just get it. Also, I don't understand whats going on with the IWGP Titles - British Invasion arn't the recognised champs - so i'm thinking Team 3D have to win them back. Nice column, as I have come to expect from you BCR, good to see some TNA predictions and discussion going on. |

For anyone whose been wanting a meaty wrestling column here, you just got it. You covered everything there was to cover, and you couldn't have summed it up better than this..
Quote:
Are they saying Sting is retiring again? Last I heard he wasn't. I'd hope if he was it would have months of buildup.

Dude, YOU KNOW that I'm already super-pumped for tonight's show (or tomorrow for you Aussies), and you found a way to make me drool! Seriously, this was probably one of the best prediction columns I've ever read (be it WWE or TNA), as you managed to incorporate rivalries, predictions, and genuine emotions for every match on the card. That is no easy feat. Well done Box Car!

Well my predictions were about 50% correct, the popes family issues did cause a setback on my predicted heel turn for Don West though.
Swanton - Nah man, this is my first prediction column. I didn't want to do one for every PPV but BFG is something special. TJ - Awesome. Freeby - Visitor message me if you did end up watching it, I know Andy did. Thanks for picking up on those and keeping me honest, but I'll tell you that if I didn't proofread this it would have been awful. The first time I wrote it was basically 1 paragraph ='s 1 sentence. Nonstop - Streaming and buying the pay-per-view are two different things my friend .Missouri - Worked shoot. SIMS - Well now we do, they basically switched titles which is good as it allows the BI to actually have a meaningful title (in TNA) to hold. Button - I was hoping for it to be meaty as it is actually the longest column I've wrote to date. I always thought he was going to retire. Freekydeeky - It's what I aimed to do. Chris - It was actually today (when you posted). And you drooled, what the hell man? I'm glad you really really liked it.
