Default 2009 Major League Baseball Playoffs

By this time tomorrow, the playoffs will be completely set. Right now - here are the potential matchups:

AL:

Yankess vs. Detroit/Minnesota
Boston vs. Anaheim

NL:

The Good News:Still no freaking clue. If Colorado and Phillie lose, and St. Louis wins - there is a 3 way freaking tie. WHAT THE FUCK HAPPENS? I'm sure Baseball Tonight will explain at 2am? Three way coin flip? WHAT KIND OF COIN IS THAT?

The Bad News:

The HUGE Toilet Bowl will have home field advantage. That place really is a shithole. I've been there, I know. It takes 4 freaking hours to get out of the parking lot if you stay until the end of the game, and the only way to get there is to drive. I'm not kidding. It's lame. That's why all those bitches leave in the 7th inning. They pay all that money, then listen to the end off the game in their "boomin' system" AM radio.

I hate LA.

I'm pretty sure the NL matchups are now set. Normally the top seed (the stinking Doyers) would play the wildcard team, however since the wildcard is in their division that cant happen. So since thats the case I think the Cards play the Dodgers (and man I hate that matchup for the Dodgers). Then the Rockies play the Phillies, and since the Rocks are the Wildcard team they will be on the road.

Oh shit, I just looked at the standings and saw they were all a game apart. My head now hurts.

I think//hope NLCS is Cardinals v. Rockies, with the Cards winning

I think the ALCS will be Yankees v. Angels. I hope it will be Angels v. Twins (not likely though). I have the Yanks going to the World Series.

I then have the Cards beating the Yanks in the World Series on the backs of their incredible starting pitching aswell as a very balanced lineup.

Like I said in the other thread... I can't see the Rockies losing the first series. They are so hot, it's ridiculous. Granted, their pitching could fall apart at any point - but I still think they would score 6 runs and win. Those fuckers always score at least six runs, somehow.

...and FUCK. I figured you'd be able to explain to me what happens to who. The three way clusterfuck tie makes my head spin - I really have no idea what would happen, and stupid Baseball Tonight hasn't said anything about it occurring.

This just feels like a year that the Yankees are going to win it. A-Rod's due, and Jeter and Mo and Jorge want one more before the dance is over - which it almost is. For some reason, it just feels right - now that the Yankees went out and got some pitching.

I'm not sold on the Yanks this year at all. They just dont have the pitching depth to get the job done. I just cant take a team seriously when they have a sub-standard #2 pitcher (who flat out has never really won a big game) in Burnett. I'm not sold that Pettitte has much left and at the very least seems like an underwhelming #3 starter, and when they need a #4 starter (which wont happen til round 2) they'll likely go with Chad Gaudin (since Joba's been awful).

That doesnt really inspire confidence in me.

If the Cards can get to the 2nd round I'm not going bet against a team that has a chance to run out Wainwright and Carpenter in 4 of the 7 games (and maybe even 5 who knows). I also dont have much of a problem with Pineiro as their #3.

Cliff Lee and Cole Hamels ain't a bad 1-2 punch to throw out there either, as much as i hate the phils and hamels may not have been great this yr, i'd feel comfortable sending him out there, of course with that bullpen they may need complete games from them.

I love the twins story but i can't possibly see a scenario where they beat the yankees.

Unless something crazy happens in Minnesota, today's been about as anticlimactic as a day setting up a one-game playoff can be.

e: Delmon Young...............good at.......baseball?!?!

CC blows, AJ blows, A-Rod cant hit

Then Yankees will lose.

But I have Yankees going to ALCS. From there I have no freaking clue.

And damn Dodgers Stadium always looks empty. How do they get such a good attendance?

This is crazy. CC definitely does not blow. The guy has been one of the top 5 pitchers over the past 5 years, and he's got 19 wins on the season, and is a top 5 Cy Young candidate. Saying that he blows is just insane.

A-Rod also can most definitely hit. I'm assuming you're talking about his post-season stats, but even that is wrong. First he's only had 170 ABs, which is too small a sample size to decide anything in, but even in those 170 he's got .373 OBP, and a .483 Slg%. He also has 7 HRs, and 17 RBIs. I mean maybe he's not as good in the post season as he is in the regular season, but frankly those are still borderline all-star type numbers.

Oh and I'm sure you'll throw Sabathia's playoff stats in my face, but again they are only in 25 innings pitched. He hasnt been good in those innings, but you really have to realize how vital sample size is when analyzing anything.

I believe he was giving a scenario in which the Twins could beat the Yankees. If CC, AJ, and A-Rod suck, then Korean could see the Yanks losing. Or something like that.

It's really starting to hit me that playoff baseball is coming and I'm starting to geek up for it. I haven't seen the Yanks play postseason ball for a good 2 years now and I miss it. Big victory in the fact that Verlander had to pitch today for Detroit, thus making him unable to pitch game 1.

Personally, Detroit scares me more than Minny, but in reality it would be a mega disappointment if the Yanks dropped the series to either one of these teams.

Oh I see. In that case it make sense.

I really dont see any way that the Twins could beat the Yanks. They really dont have any dominant pitchers, and they have a lineup full of empty holes like Nick Punto, Matt Tolbert, and Jose Morales, not to mention underwhelming players like Delmon Young. There's only 2, maybe 3 players on the Twins who would play for the Yanks and thats Jason Kubel and Joe Mauer, and I guess Denard Span. They are way out of their depths.

Detroit's another kettle of fish entirely. They'd scare me in a short series when they can throw Verlander, Jackson, Porcello, Verlander and Jackson.

No, I am not saying CC will blow. Thats the scenario in which Twins win the Series, if CC wsucks, AJ sucks and S-Rod sucks. But I am confident A-Rod will be hitting, and CC will be at least be OK. I have no idea about AJ.

That makes alot more sense. Sorry for misunderstanding.

As a side note. AJ Burnett sucks.

With the Phillies winning today, the matchups are set in the NL.

Phillies vs. Rockies

Dodgers vs. Cardinals

Im not sure how many people go to the chats at espn but joe morgan said one of the more propestorous things i've ever heard today and basically it boils down to wins apparently impress him more then K's and ERA in regards to who the NL Cy Young is, basically cuz wins is the name of the game which is fine and dandy if you're looking at wins and losses as a team as compared to a statistically greater team but come on, what kind of credibility does that give you as an analyst when a starting pitchers wins impress you more then K's, era, whip etc..

Joe Morgan is a bad analyst? No kidding?

God, I hadn't watched any games on TBS this year, so I'd forgotten how fucking unbearable Chip Caray is. Between him, Joe Buck, and Thom Brennaman, there must be some law that if your dad is/was a much beloved baseball broadcaster, you must be fucking awful.

The guy just bugs me. A lot of that's just gut reaction, but he does do two really annoying things:

- Makes a lot of factual errors.
- "Good ol' days" old-timer whining from a guy who's 40 years old. That gets annoying with real old-timers, I don't need to hear it from a guy who started in the 90's.

A-Rod with two hits and a few rbi's, and Derek Jeter with a big 2-run HR, and 3 runs scored!

It's a great night to be a Yankees fan!

Good game all around. CC was ok. A-Rod got some hits and RBIs. Which is a very good thing. But lets not forget that this Twins team is a fatigued team. I think this series will go 4 or 5 games.
