Green Eyes #10: Life after Jeff
Hey whats up all? Long time no green eyes. I’ve been very hard pressed for time the last 8 weeks or so which has lead to me having little or no time to do my column writing thing. That being said, I am happy to return with grEEn EyEs #10. This week I am looking at the Smackdown main event picture. With Jeff poised to take some well earned time off after Summerslam, there will be an opening for a fresh world title feud. Who is most likely to step into the world title picture? Let me paint a little picture…. <Vince McMahon sits in his office, deep in thought> Bid me not my hearts desire, Breathe no flame, start no fire, See these mountains, all as one. Where go the title when Jeff is gone? Perhaps Khali, should get the nod? But at 7 foot, he does look odd. Mike Knox perhaps, his time has come. But wins on Smackdown, he only has one. Oh perilous, this decision be, Which Superstar shall I set free? A veteran, whose skills are bold, Or a rookie talent, whom I can mould? <Enter Finlay wielding his shillelagh> ![]() A decision burdens you; I’m not mistaken, So go the road that is less taken, Those kids back there, awash with talent, Need a champion whose firm yet gallant. I’ve battled for an age, from my earliest days, Now I’m grizzled, experienced, and set in my ways, My style will make these young stars golden, Stars just like the times of olden. So give all what, has not been seen, A champion of Emerald green, A fighter who’ll ignite the passion, Smackdown’s future, this will fashion. <A huge red pyro lighst up Vince’s office. Finlay and Vince stagger backwards as Kane enters> ![]() Do not adhere to that mythical plan, Pay no heed to the Irishman, The main event, keep much the same, But bring the title home to Kane. Long has my tenure with you been sick, From marrying Lita to Katie Vick, A new heavyweight champion, you must choose. I think you’ll find I’ve paid my dues. The monster Kane is set in stone, Just give me the world title throne, A champion, both cold and chilling, My body is able, my strong heart willing. <CM Punk then strolls casually passed the Big Red Machine and approaches Vince> ![]() I think you all, are smokin’ somethin’, Cos’ Friday nights, I have been runnin’, CM Punk is the main event, All your times have come and went. I’ve done the good guy, I kept it real, Now I’m still shining whilst turning heel. The world title will, be mine to keep, The rest of you can go to sleep. The future of Smackdown could not be brighter, A straight edge shooter and hardcore fighter, Two MITBs and world titles since, I’m the answer, tell them Vince. <Vince starts whistling and turns away awkwardly with his hands in his pocket> <Chris Jericho comes in and pats a down hearted looking CM Punk on the back> ![]() We’ve heard you junior, now step aside, To my plan surely, Vince shall abide, Need I remind you of my achievements to date? The first unified champion, my most admirable trait. But rock and roll I’ve left behind, And pastures new, I would surely find, For a heel so great, I have become, My stock has risen, my star has shone. Need I go on? What more need be said? You’ve cracked the code, now use your head. Smackdown has, but one way to go. Stopped and dropped by the walls of Jericho. <The lights go off suddenly. After an unsteady few moments the lights return with the Undertaker standing before Vince.> ![]() You all speak quickly, less ye forget, A force that is yet to be reckoned with, For when darkness falls ye will repent, For gold is now my heart’s intent. Need I say what’s gone before? Need I express my need for more? For every challenge I’ve rendered weak. No man is yet to break my streak. But my finest hour cometh yet, My last crusade is all but set. Return I will to the grandest stage, My legend will define this age. <Jeff Hardy enters and the Undertaker stares viciously at him> ![]() Yo chill now dead man, I heard what you said, But unlike you, I just ain’t dead. I’m still the champ and I’m still competin’, All challengers, I’ll keep defeatin’. I’ve worked my way and won my glory, I’ve turned the tides and wrote my story, From jobbing to Razor, on Monday nights, From the lowest of lows, to the dizzying heights. So who takes over? It matters not. You earn your keep to stay on top. Maybe I’m leaving or maybe I’ll stay, But this time I’m doin’ it my own way. <Vince buts in and tries to restore order> Enough now all, your points are clear, A decision will be made in the future near. So go now, leave, not in the order of your coming, And leave me form my plan most cunning. <The wrestlers leave the room and Vince returns to his chair. He begins to stroke his chin supposedly as he considers all the arguments before him.> Oh what to do now all is said. What shall I do once Jeff is fled? Jericho, Taker, all would fit nicely. But a champion, I must not take lightly. When I think of old, of the glory I’ve seen, From Hitman Hart to 3:16, Another level they all did set, That level of late has not been met. Criteria that, a champion should meet. Glory in victory and pride with defeat. A Ric Flair type champion…. but nobody’s like naitch… …Ah screw it I’ll just stick the belt on Triple H. ![]() <The End> ![]() Of course there are others on the roster you could make a case for. John Morrison, Rey Mysterio and maybe even Dolph Ziggler could be touted as potential main eventers once Jeff goes. One or two of the lines above were derived from poems and I threw in a line from Macbeth also if anyone noticed. The Shakespearean Wrestling master piece shall be written someday I’m sure, but probably not by me. That’s all for now, I thank you for reading. I will try to get a column out as often as I can, as I very much enjoy doing so. There’s some great stuff in the CF at the moment. A lot of the new writers of a few months back are still going strong which is great to see. Until next time, stay healthy. Slán Eoghan Last edited by Mister E; 08-10-2009 at 01:32 PM. Great stuff sir, I really liked this. Completley thinking outside the box here and you gave a interesting look at a good topic ( that being where SD goes once Jeff leaves). I also loved the bit at the end when Vince just decideds to give the belt to Hunter. All round a great column, oh and congrats for reaching the big 10.

Congrats on making it to double figures Eoghan. It's a shame you can't find the time to write more regularly, particularly if you're going to post stuff of this quality. Still, a very good effort, totally creative and thoroughly enjoyable. And lol @ the Triple H bit at the end.
Keep it up, if you can and I'll read you next time, whenever that may be.

Way different then what I expected it to be here Eog, but you did a great job with it. This was really fun to read as it flowed nicely, gave me a good look at many different superstars but most importantly, was original!
Hopefully you can still find the time to write once every so often because I've became a fan of your recent work.

Shit man, long time no read for real! I was worried about you, homeboy!
This was pretty darn good man. I have instant respect for anyone that does poems/songs/plays/whatever in their columns, but you really nailed this one. Excellent work my friend and hope to hear from you soon enough! |

Top quality here mate and you injected the different superstars' personalities brilliantly into what they said.

This was Cyrus-esque in its creative simplicity, and I enjoyed all of it. What stood out was how you managed to change the narrative voice according to who was speaking, while still rhyming and making sense. The end was quality, too.
You've come a long way in a short time. Keep them coming, if you find the time.

Superb stuff Eoghan. SD is without a true champion of main event pedigree (sic) and we could indeed see some interesting twists over the next few months.
Loved you dropping the rhymes, it would be cool to see that brought back from time to time. You could even write a whole musical episode of Smackdown, which would be sweet. It did seem a bit short, but really if the quality is good then it only means your fans want more! Slán agus beannacht leat!! |

Aye, this was a very good column. I'll just second what everybody before me said, because I would be copying most of their feedback.
I hope #11 is out sooner rather than later. |

Eoghan, what can I say?
You have improved greatly since you debuted, and then you treat us to this? You spoil us. The dialogue was suitable for the respective wrestlers, the ending was funny, and it was just brilliant overall. Well done!

It would have been GREAT if you stopped rhyming when Jericho, and just say " I will not succumb to the hypocritical nature of this column and not . . . rhyme."
The Kane one was the funniest, although it made me sad when I thought about it. Good job Ego Bego. |

Stryder - Thanks for compliment. Yes it was thinking outside the box which is an important aspect of column writing I believe. Glad you liked the HHH bit. Cheers for feedback.
Freeman - Thanks for feedback. Yes it was good to make it to number 10, I thought I was going to struggle there a fw weeks back but I got it out. Glad you liked the HHH twist, I'll hopfully get another column out sooner rather than later. Cheers for kind words mate. Box Car Rocco - Thanks BCR, yes I went with a rhyming scheme this time. Its a fun way to write. Cheers for feedback, I will try to get stuff out as often as I can. NEXTTOBELOST - Yes HHH was a a good SD champion so its a viable option. Glad you enjoyed this, thanks for feedback. MyLeeCyrus - Thank you sir. Dare I say I'm inspired by your work so a compliment from you is very much appreciated. Cheers mate. Super Chrisss - Cheers Chris, yes I've been bogged down with work for the last 2 months but I'm hoping to try get one or two columns out a month if I can. Glad you liked the rhymes + thank you for the kind words. SIMS - Thank you for feedback on the pace + flow. Anything that rhymes needs to be readable so I'm glad you found it so. Cheers Kano - Cheers for feedback sir. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Joey Shinobi - Thank you for flattering Cyrus comparison. Yes capturing the narrative voice of each character was my main aim here so I'm glad it made an impact. Cheers for feedback. Xanman - I'm glad you liked the ending, thanks for compliment + feedback. MissouriDragon - You're well able to drop a rhyme my friend, nice work. Thnak you for the kind words + feedback. Petre Dyche - Go raibh Maith agat. Yes rhyming is a very fun way to write. A smackdown musical would be epic, i'll keep that in mind. Actually I'll PM you this week as regards to the Irish column, I know I said we'd do that a while back but got caught for time. Cheers for feedback mate. Andy - Cheers my friend, I'll be hoping to get #11 out in the near future! Glacier - Cheers for the kind words! Scott Uberman - Thank you sir. Swanton - Thanks for the kind words + feedback on the dialogue. I think it was important to capture the dialogue properly to make the column work. Uncle Joe - Yes that would've been an awesome addition to the Jericho section. I had worked hard on trying to capture his tone; if I had added in that element of his current persona then it would've been better. Cheers for feedback. Thanks All Eoghan |
