So I had this started before the reset.
This is a fun draft where you have to fill a 25 man roster for a fee of 50 mil. I will cap this at a maximum of 8 people, all these picks will be done on the board, and people will have 24 hours to make that pick (which might be changed, if people would like it less). The only real issue I havent decided on is if we are making American League, or National League team? Do people want the DH involved? Oh incase there is any sort of disputes about player salaries will be determined by this website http://mlbcontracts.blogspot.com/ First Round CharlieMac - Hanley Ramirez - SS - 5.5 Mil Zuma - Ryan Braun - LF - .745 Mil Mentoch - Evan Longoria - 3B - .55 Mil Coolio - On the Clock til 3AM Saturday Blade - Rogue - WholeFnShow - JJJJShabado - Last edited by Mentoch the Mindtaker; 02-20-2009 at 12:31 PM. |

So far we have 6 people (CharlieMac, Coolio, Blade, WholeFnShow, Rogue, and myself). Need 2 more.
Here are basically 3 solid links for reference for doing this. First is ESPN's version of the draft. This shows you the order they drafted, and if you go to the round they picked them in it shows you their salaries. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3886206 Here's the salaries we are going for, there are some players who have missing salaries (for some reason), and in that case we will either go by what ESPN says their making (if they were drafted), or failing that we will count them as what they made last year. http://mlbcontracts.blogspot.com/ And lastly we have the old standby to see what the players produce, Baseball Reference http://www.baseball-reference.com/ Should help people out a bit. |

Some interesting picks there. Before the board reset, I selected Hanley Ramirez with my #1 pick.

I cant remember what else the draft order was so I'll re-randomize, but since Charlie definitely did have the first pick, he'll still have it.
Should I wait for 2 more people, or should we just run it with 6 people? I'll give this til either Friday night, or Saturday morning, if its not filled up by then we'll start. We'll start with 24 hours for people to make their picks, but ideally since this is largely really active people we'd move alot faster than that. ***EDIT*** Zuma's in so 1 spot left. People should invite people they think would be good. Last edited by Mentoch the Mindtaker; 02-20-2009 at 04:12 AM. |

All right so I just drew it up, with the last entrant getting the 8th pick (which isnt nessacarily a huge disadvantage. Here's the order, and Charlie has Hanley Ramirez.

Good we're full. Everyone OK with 24 hours, or would people rather it be 12?

I'd say 12. This draft could theoretically last six months if it were allowed the full 24 hours.

12 it is, but I'll still give coolio the full 24.

It's only "theoretically" though. I don't like the 12 hour thing, because... say someone makes their pick at night east coast... I'm nowhere near a computer until afternoon west coast... or vice versa...
whatever though... maybe we can get a little more feedback from the rest of the group before we decide - and majority rules? I vote 24 hours... just in case.

I'm fine with majority rules. If we're going to go with 24 hours I'd like people to try and send me their picks in priority so we can move this along. Coolio has 4 hours left. BTW all the times I quote will be west coast times.

obviously if it wasnt snake I would've rigged the draft to go first.
Now that Hamilton's off the board I'll just say that I'm surprised that he went after Braun. If for no other reason than defense, and that he's able to put up the numbers he has in the AL over the NL (albeit in the best hitters park in the majors). Both slam dunk first rounders obviously, so you cant really go wrong, but I would've placed Hamilton above him slightly. Blade has another hour to go, then we're on to Rogue. ***EDIT*** First Round CharlieMac - Hanley Ramirez - SS - 5.5 Mil Zuma - Ryan Braun - LF - .745 Mil Mentoch - Evan Longoria - 3B - .55 Mil Coolio - Josh Hamilton - OF - .456 Mil Blade - SKIPPED Rogue - On The Clock til Midnight Pacific tomorrow night to make your pick. WholeFnShow - JJJJShabado - Last edited by Mentoch the Mindtaker; 02-22-2009 at 03:35 AM. |

Really? My thing with Hamilton is... what if he's just a fluke? Braun's been good since he started, but Hamilton has only really had that one year to put those numbers up. I thought of both, honestly, but I thought Braun has more upside and a brighter future.
Hamilton was a beast last year, but I want to see more than one year out of him.

I don't like Hamilton at all. What was his average after the All-Star break last season? Wasn't it horrific? Plus, hate to say it, he always has a chance of going back to the drugs. imjustsayinisall.

I'm not quibbling with the selection at all. I've got like 10 guys grouped together at the top, and frankly the order they go in could change every time I'd think.
I would've also waited before picking Hanley Ramirez since you are able to get top quality talent right now for no money, and later on you can afford to spend more since you have those tied up at less than a mil. |

Grady Sizemore's not a terrible pick but he makes 4.6 this season.
First Round CharlieMac - Hanley Ramirez - SS - 5.5 Mil Zuma - Ryan Braun - LF - .745 Mil Mentoch - Evan Longoria - 3B - .55 Mil Coolio - Josh Hamilton - OF - .456 Mil Blade - SKIPPED Rogue - Grady Sizemore - CF - 4.6 WholeFnShow - On The Clock til Noon Pacific Monday night to make your pick. JJJJShabado - ***EDIT*** Just so people know if you've been skipped and your 2nd round pick comes back to you I dont think we should wait so you will be skipped again. Wait, espn said he made 500k. Can we decide one site to use?
Cause one site had braun making more too. I wouldn't have taken grady had I known he made that much. I'd take Pedroria instead

I'll be taking one Tim Lincecum, who according to the contract site, makes $405,000, or .405 mil.

As for the reference, the first place to check is if they were drafted in the ESPN version. If so we go with that number, otherwise we go with this lovely site. http://mlbcontracts.blogspot.com/ First Round CharlieMac - Hanley Ramirez - SS - 5.5 Mil Zuma - Ryan Braun - LF - .745 Mil Mentoch - Evan Longoria - 3B - .55 Mil Coolio - Josh Hamilton - OF - .456 Mil Blade - SKIPPED Rogue - Dustin Pedroia - 2B - 1.5 Mil WholeFnShow - Tim Lincecum - RHP - .405 Mil JJJJShabado - On the Clock til 1PM Pacific Monday (for both the next two picks) |

I apologize for missing my turn in the draft. I had originally thought that I would have more time for this, but I really don't. I will have to withdrawl myself from the draft/game.

I thought a bit about that but I figured he'd be gone before I picked at 16 and if I were starting a team today, this is the guy I would build around. Thanks to the reset, I had extra time to think about it and if I were going to go with someone else, it would have been Longoria.
