Default (US vs. UK) Savana's Chamber of Pain #44: Why Punk shouldn't cash in again?

Savana’s Chamber of Pain

Why CM Punk Shouldn’t Cash in

Let’s take a rather small flashback to a time I do not remember too well. You could say that it was a long time ago but I’ll be honest and say it was last summer. If you read my columns and paid enough attention, you would have learned I smoked a lot of marijuana. I even did a column once on just what kind of drugs were for certain kind of wrestlers, writers, and promoters. None of this really matters except for the fact that I was really goddamn high when CM Punk cashed in his MITB case against Edge and won the World Title. I marked out like a crazy little stoner and all was well in my mind. I might be on my own in this situation but I like to believe his reign as World champion was far more successful than we give him credit for.

A number of factors that only I would pay attention to, I guess, actually make this one of my more favorite reigns in the WWE within the past five years. RVD’s reign as WWE champ is up there and almost for the same reason. More about that will explained in the upcoming discussions of the column.

Simply Unpredictable

This is actually a trait of his reign that may be misunderstood from the way I am typing the title out. You think I’m talking about the actual cashing in of the case on Edge. I did mark out like a school girl when that happened, but that isn’t the reason this was one of my favorite reigns. After all, it would be slightly ridiculous to say a reign is amazing simply by judging the outcome of the match the wrestler won the title. That would make Edge the greatest WWE champion ever in all of your minds but that obviously isn’t how you guys look at things. In this case I will agree with you simply to continue on.

I say unpredictable because his reign was a ticking time-bomb and none of us were experts on the subject. The draft had just happened and you had so many top level guys feuding with Punk all that once that it almost gave us a headache to watch the show. Not because it was clusterfuckish but we hadn’t seen true good wrestling television for a very long time. Two years of the most predictable WWE title history I will be glad never to have to talk about unless it involves Jeff Hardy that is. Honestly, I’ve written like five columns on the dude and he is only a one-time world champion.

Kane, Batista, and JBL had all set their sites on the World Title and John Cena was still lingering around. Hell, for a second, all of us thought his reign was going to last a mere day when JBL challenged him the very night he won the title from Edge. All looked dim on one of the soon to be shortest reigns ever. I figured he at least had put on one good promo during champ so that made him at least better than Kane, Orton’s ten minute reign, and Rey’s reign for all of you people who need an easier point of reference. Things were meant to be though and he won the match that night.

Fast forward all the way to Unforgiven and the way he loses the title is just as unpredictable as his reign was. While the way he lost the title wasn’t one of my favorite endings to a reign, it does help me move to my next point.

Mike Adamle

This guy rocked my socks off in more ways than one. You can assume what you want but the dude was the greatest WWE GM I ever had the opportunity to view in my life. He was spunky and always kept things shooken up so that we didn’t have enough time to write a full column on his actions. Thus, we resorted to simply keeping our columns about how apparently horrible he was on the microphone. Another point I would like to make is that the dude rocked on the microphone. His little clipboard he always carried really made him seem like he was a busy man. You guys offered him no credit and now I am forced to watch Vickie annoy the shit out of me. Lame, and I don’t really dig that.

This complicated Punk’s reign by just constantly switching up all the competitors that Punk had to fight on an everyday bases through out Punk’s fantastic reign. JBL on his first night, Kane on another night, Batista at a PPV and then JBL again at Summerslam. My heart was racing and nothing could help besides marijuana. I eventually got busted and just had to deal with hardcore Adamle booking until I could go back to smoking. Eventually I could and all was well until Adamle was released from WWE. I couldn’t believe that such a horrible thing would happen. Sadly, it even ended right around the time that Punk’s reign ended so I was double sad. I know twice as sad was the correct way to put it so please don’t install that in my feedback. Almost makes me irate.

GTS

You just knew you were going to get to see a GTS when Punk was champ. I just love seeing people get their faces smashed in on a deca-daily bases and Adamle’s fantastic booking really made this possible when he would book Punk in multiple matches at a time just to give the fans, myself, what we, I, wanted.

Pretty short section on why his first cash-in worked out so well. So let me say why his second cash in would not work out so well if the same ideas were in place when he went for it a second time. If you thought the first section was short then you will see that this section is even shorter. Not because I got lazy but it’s just too easy to point out my good points.

Predictably Spoiled

The dude is on Smackdown so I think it almost ruins the fun of tuning in, expecting to see Jericho pawning some bitches and then having the good news spoiled on Lordsofpain. It’s really my fault that I check the spoilers but I am human and none of you can judge me the way it would hurt, with rocks if you had to guess, so I’ll continue on. An even better point that I thought up would be:

We all expect him to cash in unexpectedly…

We suspected all this before but we’re all just calling it too much right now that we admit to being surprised. Eventually, maybe, they will come out with the cash-in but not this soon. He is obviously trying to throw us for a swerve and the WWE has did a fantastic job of making all of us jump out of our seats in excitement a bit too early. We sit down and pretend we did it on purpose.

Vickie Guerrero/ Teddie Long?

In no way near as great as Adamle was. I actually hate her/him and she/he would probably just book CM Punk into a shit load of tag matches against like six guys just to ‘teach’ him. Boo. I could form this into what’s wrong with WWE column but it’s just too self explanatory.

This would then turn into RVD’s reign towards the end. At first you had no idea what was going on during RAW or ECW and it was fun to watch. THEN! It got really boring when Cena got involved again but luckily it was saved when Edge got involved again. That dude really has made me very happy throughout my young life. I don’t think the WWE could introduce another character as dynamic as Edge to help the Edge vs Punk feud that would follow Punk cashing in his bank to win the title from Edge.

Before any of you jump my balls, no way am I willing to consider that Punk might cash in on Orton. I actually dislike the idea of him on RAW. It wouldn’t work out near as well as his first time on RAW with the title and I think Batista would reclaim the title and all of me would die inside. If there is one wrestler I hate in the world more than any other, it’s Batista. I just could never stand him since the beginning of 2006 and he was only on one show. My one moment of enjoying him was during the Smackdown vs Raw Survivors Series feud.

GTS

This is actually just as bad ass as it always was. I still enjoy looking up videos of people getting the GTS to pass the time when I am not watching CM Punk or playing Smackdown vs Raw 2009 and giving the GTS to Edge all over again. Sadly, this is not enough, hypothetically, to make his reign as much as a success as I wish it would be. You need all three of Savana’s simplistic demands to make Savana happy and I guess they just will not make the cut again.

Until Next Time,

Andy Savana

Your on on a roll as of late Savana and this was another excellent column. I also enjoyed Punks reign and agree that it had that feel of unpredictability to it with all those big stars challenging for the title for it to be won by Jericho who came from nowhere.

Good luck in making team US.

very good column, and i agree what hurt Punks reign is how he lost it. I also agree with you though, because i enjoyed his reign, and from the Smackdown results looks like he has been trying to cash in the MITB, but has always been stopped by Umaga. Hopefully we will be on for another Punk Title reign. I'll catch you next time.

As you may or may not know, CM Punk is MY FAVORITE wrestler in wrestling. So, I really, really liked this piece (just a bit biased). Good work and unique perspective.

I gotta say I liked your opinions on adamle. I think was you got passed the speech mistakes he was pretty ok. I remember steph coming out a few weeks after he left and making a mistake on the mic then saying "Oh no i pulled an adamle" which I thought was a bit low.

Good views on CM punk, I think he's more than capable of being a main eventer. His reign didn't seem good at the time but thinking back it was a much stronger reign than he was given credit for.

Nice read

This was a nice quick CM Punk column right here and I found myself agreeing with pretty much everything. It would be nice to see you go back to the old torture gimmick though!

Aside from that, there's not a lot that I can correct here there weren't any noticable spelling/grammer mistakes aside from the one that you mentioned in the column and the Teddie Long thing so I'll give you props for that. Good luck with the US/UK tree-outs.

My bad for spelling Teddy Long wrong. Such a dumb mistake.

On a bright side. CM Punk being made to job until we feel like we want to see him win in recent weeks is going great.

I don't know how I feel about this. It seemed like there should have been more to say; they could involve Christian in the CM Punk/Edge feud to give it some dynamism.
