Predictions for the 2010s

This is not so much a 2010 year-specific prediction thread, moreso about the future years in general.

Some of these may sound crazy to some, but I don't think the scenarios are extremely hard to believe. Anyway, here are my predictions.

-Obama WILL be re-elected in 2012, by a fairly narrow margin. However, he will go down as an average president.
-American Idol will continue through the 2010s, though with lower ratings and less popularity.
-The Office will end some time around 2013-2015.
-The Yankees will fail to reclaim the championship in 2010, though possibly in the few years following.
-Alexander Ovechkin will be universally considered the best player in the NHL, ending any debate over him, Crosby, or Malkin.
-Lebron James will go to the Lakers, where he will win a championship in 2012.
-The 00s movie trends of trilogies, sequals, remakes, superhero films, and Judd Apatow-esque comedies will give way to new styles. Also, ticket prices will fall.
-Artists such as the Black Eyed Peas, Kelly Clarkson, Kanye West, Britney Spears, Beyonce, and Justin Timberlake will remain popular until around 2015.
-Artists such as Rihanna, Lil Wayne, T-Pain, Taylor Swift, Jonas Brothers, Miley Cyrus, The Fray, and Shakira will remain popular until around 2011 or 2012.
-The current popular hairstyles (specifically those flat, curvey, Emo-ish, Rihanna-esque, faded bang type of look for women) will remain popular until the mid-2010s.

Now here's the big stuff:

-The economy will improve steadily in the early 10s, yet will not reach pre-2007 levels.
-Iraq's exit dates will be predictably delayed for whatever reasons, perhaps another 3 months.
-US troops will all be withdrawn from the Middle East by the end of 2011. The surge in Afghanistan will be relatively effective yet the quagmire situation will more or less remain. The future of the War on Terror will be fought by the CIA, etc. This will mark somewhat of an end of an era.
-China will continue to grow immensely. Iran will continue to suppress and grow as well. Iran will become extremely greedy and hungry for more power and build more nukes and invade weak neighboring countries. However, Israel will not be wiped off the face of the Earth.
-Climate regulation bills will continue to be ignored, and those who care will become extremely concerned by the late 2010s, some will become forcefull.
-By the decade's end, almost all US states will recognize civil unions or gay marriage. Soon, the debate will become front headlines, and reach 1950s levels that the previous Civil Rights Movement did.
-Also by the decade's end, the issue of marijuana legalization will become a front-page debate, much bigger than now.
-The need for oil will continue to increase and the supply will drastically decrease. Countries will get violent.


Basically, by the 2020s all hell is going to break lose. A huge war will be fought between China, Iran, the US, maybe Russia. Causes will include oil, nuclear weapons, and ferocious expansion (on China and Iran's part). However, the War on Terror will become relatively obsolete.

Ha ha, what I just posted was actually from another message board and I just copied and pasted. I forgot the 2012 part!

Anyway, in the original post, I predicted that those events would only occur IF the world did not end.

My Predictions -

Political predictions -

- The Repubs will retake control of the House in 2010 and the Senate will go more or less 50-50. Many prominent Dems will lose reelection (Reid, Spector, Dodd, etc)
- Obama will lose in a landslide in 2012 after almost 4 years straight of scandals and incompetence. He will go down as one of the worst presidents in US history.
- Change will happen in Iran starting in 2010. Either there will be a revolution ending in Amidinajad's death, or a war will break out caused by either Iran nuking Israel or Israel preemptively attacking Iran.
- The last economic bubble will burst in 2012 (the debt or money bubble as some have called it) which will help usher Obama and the Dems out of Washington.
- Civil Unions in some form will become law in most, if not all, states.
- The Dem's health care "reform" will pass in 2010, cap and trade will not.
- Climate change will be proven to be a natural phenomenon and all pro man made global warming proponents will lose all credibility. Many of them will face legal charges for perpetrating the fraud.
- Michael Moore will commit suicide by gorging himself to death on Twinkies.
- The US will face a major terrorist attack against US interests during Obama's admin. His successor will finish the war on terror and end our involvement in Afghanistan.
- Revolution will happen in Cuba following the deaths of the Castro brothers.
- Either it will be discovered that Bin Laden has been dead for some time, or he will be killed in a US airstrike.
- Mexico will enter into a brief civil war.

TV Predictions -

- Keith Olbermann will get fired after he attacks a camera operator on live TV for interrupting another one of his conspiracy laden journeys into fantasy.
- CNN will either go under or undergo a major format change and move from center left to center right in an effort to steal viewers from Fox.
- Newspapers and magazines will continue to decline resulting in the demise of both industries.
- American Idol will be canceled by 2014.
- MyNetwork TV will go under.

Tech predictions -

- Most entertainment will move to the internet causing the computer to replace the TV and cable box in most households.
- Apple will produce an iPod with bluetooth functionality and discontinue the classic line of iPods.
- Steve Jobs will pass away and the rumor will start that he downloaded his brain onto an iPod and continues to run Apple from beyond the grave.
- Laptops with 1 TB drives will become commonplace resulting in the near death of the desktop PC.
- Solid state drives will become the norm and old style hard drives will be phased out.
- The PSP Go will continue to fail resulting in another version of the PSP limping onto shelves before 2012.
- The next generation of video game consoles will start to appear around 2012. Standard features will be bluetooth controllers, blu ray drives, hard drives of at least 1 TB, and motion sensing capabilities.
- Watches with iPods built in will be a new fad.
- T Moble will merge with another cell provider resulting in only 3 national carriers for cell service.
- Touchscreen monitors will start to become commonplace in homes.

Economic Predictions
- Kmart/Sears will merge with Target. Target will overtake Wal-Mart as the number one employer.
- RadioShack will either merge with Best Buy or go under.
- Most software only retail outlets like Software Etc will go under.
- As I said before the last economic bubble will burst in 2012. There will be a slight recovery in late 2010/2011 followed by a major recession followed by a large recovery starting in 2013/2014.
- Hybrid cars will become more commonplace, however most all other green tech will be seen as impractical and never see widespread use.
- The fall of Iran will end up causing major upheaval in the middle east which will cause energy shortages. In 2013 Obama's successor will finally take our energy situation seriously and invest in finding more domestic energy. This will lead to cheaper energy starting in 2014/2015 which will lead to massive economic prosperity.

edit 2: I should amend my health care prediction. Some sort of reform will pass. If it is similar to the current bills though it will be challenged in court and much of it will be found unconstitutional. Either that or the subsequent administration will repeal most of the most economically damaging parts of the bill.

My random predictions

Political
* The economy will continue to get worse and we will enter the depression officially. It will make the 1930's look like Disneyland.
* Carbon credits/taxes will come into effect here in Canada and America.
* Illegal immigration in the US will continue to get worse, all the while Washington does nothing. If anything, they will legalize the illegals.
* Another inside job will happen, most likely on the 10th anniversary of September 11, 2001. And with it, what little freedoms Americans have left will be gone.
* Obama will go down as the worst President in history.
* Jobs will continue to be outsourced at the blessing of the politicians.

Technology
* Internets will continue to be crippled by the cries of the big movie and TV production companies. Speeds will get better but download caps will shrink.- ISP's have already started metered bandwidth here in Canada.
* MS will release a handheld X-Box, and it will be the biggest failure in that category since the VirtualBoy in 1995.
* Playstation 4 will be released in 2012, and Sony will fuck with it more than they did with the PS3. They'll start off with support for PS1 - 3 and Linux but slowly remove playback for each one with each revision.
* X-Box failure rate will hit 75%+ but MS will still be leading the market.

TV
* Hulk Hogan will die of a heart attack within the next few years.
* WWE will continue with the new 'family & kid friendly' image but it will ultimately fail.
* TNA will not get any bigger than they already are, and investors will pull out by 2012.
* Crime dramas and reality TV will continue to dominate the airwaves in US and Canada, catering to the lowest common denominator.

Climate/environmental
* A huge earthquake will hit California, which could be 'the big one' which basically destroys it.
* Polar icecaps in the north melt. The ones in Antarctica will continue to shrink in size as well.
* A nuclear reactor somewhere in the world will go off and result in another Chernobyl.
