Default Good vs Evil in Games

This is a favorite my co-workers and I have. Do you find it more fun to play purely evil or good guys in your rpg games.

In the KoTOR series good or evil was a big deal. I found it very very very difficult to be good in these games. I generally always play the evil guy, cause it is more fun for me. Then I picked up Mass Effect and it was more fun to be the good guy, as opposed to the smart ass specist.

Do you guys like games that take the good v bad role seriously or games that dont.

Personally, I love choice.

I like to be able to choose whether or not I'm going to kill that woman that's alone in that house.

However, games that are linear are just as good.

I like games with the good v evil factor, though I almost always tend to go with the evil route. I think the only good character I have really ever done is a mage I'm workin on in Oblivion at the moment, other than that evil all the way.

What's more fun, helping people or stealing, needlessly slaughtering the innocent and eating dead bodies? I thought so.

Oblivion it is hard to swing a fully good guy. You have to skip out on theiving and the dark brotherhood to be "truly good".

I beat KOTOR 5 times, 4 times of which I was 100% Light Side, Jade Empire 3 times as 100% open palm. I've also beat Mass Effect 5 times, each time 100% Paragon.

I like being good.

InFAMOUS seems to be the latest title to do a really good job of the good and bad choice scenairio.

I went through as a hero and now I am going through as the more villianous character. There is a definite feel of being evil in this game especially when you are draining the life out of people.

Is there a game where you play as evil?

That would kick ass.

I finally embraced my darkness in Oblivion last night. I had been made a vampire early in the game. I was kinda pissed about it and vowed never to suck blood. Then last night I bit someone and it was all down hill from there.

Basically I was asleeep in frostcrag spire, and was made a vampire somehow. I spent countless hours questing for the cure and finally the hunger got to me.

Now instead of the upstanding citizen I had been I am an agent of evil for silthius.

That blows. Why not restart from a previous save instead of playing as a vampire. The only way I know to get the cure is through the Brotherhood. I'm sure there's another way, but that's the only way I know.

If that happens to me I'll be pissed. I got a mage livin in Frostcrag, I'll kill some fool if I get bit.

apparently you can get it from just killing vampires. Then yiou wake up from a dream and your a vamp. The quest for the cure is long,, and the ingredients are not the easies to find sometimes. I play one guy in game fate has chosen this path for me..... (Really into the RPG aspect) If my guys dies i never restart him he is just dead.

Ahh. I don't think I've ever played like that. I get myself into way too many stupid situations foolishly.

There is a quest the cure for vampirism. It is a little long and if you drink it you can’t be revamped.

There is one other way but it requires the expansion of the vile lair house. Hat place is made for a vampire/evil character.

And honestly being a vampire is sweet. For if you feed every night you can go out in the day light.

And if you don’t feed you get more powerful everyday (maxing out at 4 days) I like the vampire aspect but if you go that route never fast travel with out counting your distance carefully or you will die a lot.

Now here is how you got infected:

Yes you were fighting vampires or you chose to get bit as a member of the brotherhood.

If you were fighting vampires then you contacted their disease. It takes three days to warp your genes so you need to see a priest to cure it or use a spell/potion. But once you are a vamp there are only 2 cures (with the exception of shivering isles I have done everything possible for this game. I have SI as well but Fallout 3 is sucking my attention)

the vile lair is such a fast cure. you take salts that grow there and step into a pond and poof no more vampire.

Yes he is. It is called the Knights of the nine quest line. It erases all of your sins/infamy. By walking the path of nine you are forgiven by the gods.

That is how I am planning my new character. I am going to start him out being an evil vampire Dark elf (im thinking a mage/fighter/ assassin) make him very evil and then get cured of vampirism, walk the path of nine and become a holy crusader.

my next guy will be a heavy armor warrior with mysticism so i can self enchant gear I think that would be lots of fun. Strike with sword burden 100 pts or damage fatigue possiblities are endless.

Since we're on a Oblivion kick at the moment, at what point does the Vile Lair show up. I have the expansion, but unlike Frostcrag and the Pirate ship it doesn't show up yet, as well as the fighters stronghold.

Huh. I thought I redownloaded both Vile Lair and Fighters Stronghold. Everything else pops up except those two.

Does the other things like Shivering Isles, Mezunes Razor pop-up right away or does it take time for those to come up?

SI is the only one that won't auto pop up, you have to wait a day (in game time) and then you get a notice

inFamous is a really good game. One of very few where there is a very clear difference of gameplay between being good and evil.

Fallout 3 is like that, Fable 1 and 2 are like that (if you don't half ass it)

But the only thing i don't like about the fables are your appearance changes like your grow horns and stuff

I love how your character changes in Fable. That's probably one of my favorite things about those games.

That is true. I forgot that you couldn't get right up in your character's grill and check him out. Now that you brought that up I'm angry about that.

Though it's never had a long-lasting effect on the gameplay, it's almost impossible to be "good" in GTA games (as in just kill who HAS to be killed, don't fuck hookers, don't rob people, etc.). Seriously, I challenge anyone to play through the entire GTA IV story with a goose egg next to "Total pedestrians killed".
