NHL Entry Draft 2010 (6/25) and Free Agency (7/1) Thread

Alright guys, the offseason is here for 28 teams, and will be here for the other 2 in AT MOST 5 games.

    So let's get this started.

Who do you have pegged for your team in Free Agency and the Draft?

    Let us draft Seguin!!

Hall hasn't shown if he can really carry a team, he's always played on an extremely stacked Spitfires team. Seguin dragged the Whalers into the playoffs this year, then ran into Windsor. People say how Seguin did nothing, well, it isn't hard for a team as good as Windsor to neutralize him when he is the only major threat on the team.

    Kovalchuk to the Rangers.

There is a rumor, probably nothing more, that an offer has been made to the Leafs....Kaberle for the 4th overall pick.....again might just be a rumor, my friend was telling me about it earlier today. If that is true, I say go for it.....4th overall would be worth it for Kabby I think, but that would prob. be as far as we'll be moving up, because as me and my friend discussed, the Leafs have absolutely nothing to trade to move up even into 3rd spot.

  5. #5
Jackets dont need Kaberle, they are still rebuilding. They need young talents on D.

  6. #6
Again, was just a rumor. I dont really put too much stock into it till its announced, but I guess till things ARE officially announced, thats exactly what the off season is all about, the rumors. Oh and on your topic, why do you think Kovulchuk to Rangers?

  7. #7
Its Glen Sather. Free agent or bust. Yea yeaa salary cap, but hes gonna somehow dump Redden and Roszival.

Thats one hell of a lot of money to hand to the guy.....I mean given, NJ did it, but they did it more for the Playoff push, rent-a-player kinda deal......ended up falling flat, but still.

If this fourth pick/kabby trade turns out to be a bust, as I already expect it is, I really don't see much that the Leafs can do to help them this year.....there really isn't tons and tons of great free agents out there to sign, is there?......I'm asking, cause honestly, from what I've seen, the answer is no.

Not a bad crop at all.

People keep talking about trying to get Kaberle to Buffalo. It's a good idea but I don't think the right package can be determined, i.e. something the Sabres would be willing to give up, Drew Stafford, Chris Butler, and a pick, would not get Kaberle. Cap room for Kaberle can be obtained fairly easily [don't resign Toni Lydman and Henrik Tallinder].

  11. #11
Yeah, that prob. wouldn't get Kabby.....but at the same time, I think Burke is expecting to get way too much for him. I mean, hes a good player no doubt, but Burke expects to get the same that he gave for Pronger.....and Kaberle is not pronger.

nj didn't hand kovalchuk a lot of money. he was acquired in a trade and the devils only had to pay for the rest of the season what he would have made in atlanta i believe. and that was not a lot of money at all

We're coming for it next year.

    And we'll be sharply dressed.

They've brought back the unis from the birth of the most dominant NHL Dynasty of ALL TIME.

Love it. Gonna get me a Tavares or Okposo jersey. Or Park.

  15. #15
I think Tambellini should draft Seguin unless he can get someone else like if he can somehow pull off Penner and Cogliano for Spezza then take Hall. Or you can draft Seguin and try and draft Kirill Kabanov and Teemu Pulkkinen in the second round. So many tough choices but I definately hope they draft Kabanov the guy would be a top five pick if he didn't leave Moncton then get kicked off the russian U-18 team.

So, to not many peoples surprise, we've named our captain after two years.....Dion Phanuef.....the last 'great' captains of the Leafs were all forwards in some form.....interesting to see how our new Defenceman captain turns out.

    What DON'T my Lightning need?

  18. #18
Well the lightning don't need a Center with Lecavalier and Stamkos locking down the top 2 center positions. Better question what don't the Oilers need?

  19. #19
Claude Giroux for Carey Price. Would any Habs fans do this?

Would any Flyers fans do this? But since there are no Flyers fans here...Strangely.

I would not do it if I was Philly. There are cheaper options out there.

    where did that come from?

I think Burke is going to do what ever he can to get patrick sharp. I've heard Chicago wants draft picks for him, and that's something Toronto doesn't have. Should be interesting to see what Burke will try to do to get his man.

  21. #21
Meh, given the kind of shallow pool of really good free agents, I guess I could be happy if Patrick Sharp ended up on the Leafs....although hes not the type of player that Toronto needs now, we dont need another 'good but not great' player, we've got FAR more than enough of those. Although, I'm just going off of his stats, 25 goals this year, 26 last year, while both are not bad, I dunno....something just doesnt seem right. Plus the fact that hes already 28.....hes past the 'young forward' age.

  22. #22
I think Kessel is really good he came into Toronto and got 30 goals in 70 games coming off major surgery on a very shitty team as well. If the leafs get better and he plays a full schedule 45 goals ain't outta the question.

  23. #23
Yeah, but unfortunately, Kessel is kind of the exception, not the rule....at least, right now he is. I mean who knows, we're a young team, with a lot of AHL and College players.....in time, we could turn out to be pretty good.....but I'm not holding my breath.

Edit: Halak to the Blues for one AHL player, and one WHL player.....still feel confident about next season Habs fans? Cause your horseshoe just got traded. What a stupid move.

The Canadiens were dumb for trading Halak.

Halak and Price are both RFA's this year. They could have kept both of them, but it was highly unlikely. Price has no stock or value in the league right now, so they were "better off" trading Halak, yet they still got jack shit for him. I think just like everyone else that they made the wrong choice. They always make the wrong choice. Time will obviously tell. If Price thinks the pressure was on him before, he hasn't seen anything yet. The weight of the entire hockey world now rests on his shoulders. God bless that kids soul because he's gonna get slaughtered next year. I fucking shit my pants when I heard about the trade today.

I'm really not surprised at all by Halak being traded.

I am upset as fuck to get two guys back that I have never heard of before. Seriously, THIS is the best deal they could get???

  32. #32
    Lars Ellers isnt bad.

Plus whats the status of Halak? Isnt he RFA? That means the Blues will still have to sign him right?

that's right. however (correct me if i'm wrong here), the blues now own his rights. If someone else makes him a redonkulous offer (and don't be surprised if that happens) and halak jumps ship to the highest bidder, the blues will be compensated with draft picks. I'd rather have the draft picks. Montreal made a huge mistake here.

  34. #34
Look at that, we all seem to be on the same page here for once....that doesn't happen very often. It took the Habs stupidity to unite us lol. Seriously though, how the hell do you trade Halak? Most GMs sign a goalie long term after a playoffs like Halak had, and the Habs trade him? Good lord....

  35. #35
Why would the Habs trade the only reason why they got to the final 4 especially for what they got in return they got a guy projected to be a second line center and then a project forward. dumbass move.

  36. #36
So, I guess this can go here, cause we dont have a thread dedicated to other off season stuff....

The Hockey hall of fame is inducting two women into the hall, for the first time this year. Meanwhile, they're bypassing players like Joe Niewendyk(cant spell his name), Doug Gilmore, Eric Lindros(not that this matters terribly) and a coach like Pat Burns....thoughts on this? And, I suppose just over all the inclusion of the women in the hall, in the same category as the male players.

I completely agree with woman in the Hall. It's called the Hockey Hall of Fame, not the NHL Hall of Fame, consideration needs to be given to the women who helped the sport grow popular with women.

There is always next year for a lot of guys, they'll get in eventually.

Lindros is extremely debatable, but I would say no, he only played a full season once in his career. However, his more then point per game average might sway the committee.

I just can't respect a player who threw a hissy fit about who drafted him.

Lindros didn't just put up over a point per game he also took over a game in every way who cares about him snubbing the Nordiques when he played as good as he did over his career he told them before not to draft him and they did it anyway that was their own fault.

In my eyes, it's a privilege, not a right to play in the NHL, and to throw a hissy fit about who drafted you is childish and unprofessional.

What's the complaint? That shear willingness to draft him anyways help turn a laughing stock of a team into a couple of Stanley Cup champions. Drafting Lindros was one of the two best things they have ever done.
