    Wrestling Venues

We can use this thread to talk about wrestling venues in general, but I had a question about a specific one.

Obviously Wrestlemania 27 will be held in the Georgia Dome in Atlanta next year, and Miami is lobbying hard to get Wrestlemania 28.

I was thinking. I'm sure preliminary discussions have gone between WWE and Jerry Jones about possibly holding an event at Cowboys Stadium. If a Wrestlemania were held there, is it a forgone conclusion that they would break the indoor attendance record set at the Pontiac Silverdome for WMIII (93,173), and if so realistically how many people could or would WWE be able to get into Cowboys Stadium taking into account all of the staging and props WWE uses at Wrestlemania nowadays? The NBA was about to get 105,000 for the All-Star Game

I don't think they'd do over 80,000 in Cowboys Stadium. Now, the new Meadowlands, I could see that. Easier for international fans to get to, and the Northeast has always strongly supported them.

God, imagine the fee for either of those places.

Dallas should try to secure a Mania, with that giant ass TV over the field then even the cheap seaters could get a good look at the show. Im glad they finally brought Mania to the GA. Dome they could get at least 70,000 in there, as for other places the Metrodome or HHH Dome or whatever its called now in Minneapolis should hold a Mania, and the E should try to have a Mania at the Superdome .

Other candidates could be St.Louis, how big is that stadium the Rams have? Indianapolis was trying to get WM 28 for Lucas Field, and I remember reading about trying to get a show in Mexico City.

As big as the Georgia Dome, roughly. Mexico City would rule it, no dead crowd for that one.

The Metrodome is an embarrassment to this city. Keep Mania away from it.

I would like to see this happen. This would be the most insane WM ever.

I would fly down to Mexico city for Mania

I think the WWE should do a Smackdown in a small venue like the MC

Selfishly, I'd like to see a Summerslam in Chicago at Wrigley Field. I also dont think there's a chance in hell of it happening.

Dallas...it's a thought but would McMahon's set pale in comparison to the huge video screen?

^^ Selffishly I would love to see a Wrestlemania or some other major PPV at Miller Park here in Milwaukee. I about fell off my chair when I read that Brewers owner Mark Atanasio was planning on having talks with Vince McMahon about bringing and event to Miller Park. Don't know if that ever happened. We need to start using that park for something besides baseball to generate some revenue so we can have some money to spend on our blasted players! That's another topic......

Really? Are you basing that on interest level in WWE, prop and staging taking up room, or a combination of both?

If the NBA can get over 100,000 in there, even with all the staging equipment WWE uses they should be able to get at least 90,000 or more. Especially since they were able to get over 80,000 at Ford Field which is huge but obviously smaller than Cowboys Stadium. Plus, there wouldn't be need for a Titantron because of the huge HD monitor they got there so that would free up some room as well.

Interest, props, and location. They'd use up more of the available floorspace than an NBA court, not 20,000 people's worth, but it would be a factor. I just think less people would be willing to go to Dallas than some of the more coastal venues. A ring and ringside area is a little smaller than a hoops court, but the ramp and the stand-up stuff around the entrance would make a difference.

There'd be no Americans in the crowd, as they would've all been robbed and/or killed by that point in the weekend, so it would make for a different atmosphere, that's for sure.

Believe it or not, there's a venue just down the street from me that holds about 20,000 (JQH Arena) and is less than a year old and is straight-up state of the art. Too big for a house show and too small for a Raw, but it would be perfect for SD.

20,000 isn't too small for a RAW of SD. That is perfect. On average I would say attendance at each show would be somewhere around 18,000-20,000 anyway.

Id like to see Manias held in the old hot beds of wrestling, thats why I said places like St.Louis, Minneapolis, New Orleans. Isnt Tropicana field a dome? they could bring a major event to Tampa, I cant think of a large indoor venue in the Carolinas that could hold Mania. Of course Vegas is always a choice, they could bring back the togas.

I wouldn't mind seeing another Mania in Caesar's Palace. One thing as a wrestling fan that you've got to like no matter what you think of WWE nowadays is how cities are climbing all over each other trying to secure a Wrestlemania for their respective cities. I mean it's really something.

I'm still waiting for the day that Wrestlemania would be hosted by a non North American city, perhaps Beijing's Bird Nest would be a good venue and it would generate millions of millions of dollars for the local industry and would open new markets for the WWE

Or the Tokyo Dome, since Japan is also a wrestling hotbed

Unfortunately, you'll be waiting a while for it to be held outside of NA

It would be cool to do Yankees Stadium ...

Didnt Vince sr. Do shay Stadium with 36,000 for the blowoff between Bruno and Larry Zbyszko. It had Hogan jobbing to Andre and Inoki vs Larry Sharpe but the real draw was Larry and Bruno.

If it was New York there would definitely be enough interest to sell 100 thousand tickets at a pretty high price.

I would love to see WM in Yankee Stadium, old school, no fancy massive stages or a lot of pyros. Simple, old school entrance. But the sightline would suck.

  22. #22
Isnt there a boxing match in Yankees stadium? Like soon?

  23. #23
^Yup, I got a ticket for that shit too. The sightline would be terrible for that too.

I'm just coming in here to say, the TROP sholud never hold a WWE event. That place is a dump.

I would love to see a show at Citi Field but I doubt it would ever happen. A show at The Meadowlands for Wrestlemania would not work simply because how unpredictable the weather is around here in March.

It could be warm or it could still be freezing. Would be great for Summerslam, but not Wrestlemania.

Vancouver has BC Place which would probably be good for a Wrestlemania.

I don't think we'll ever see Wrestlemania or any PPV in Mexico. It would be interesting, but I just don't ever see it happening.

^NEver say never. Mexico is a huge wrestling market I believe, and Mexico City is huge. Enough people with money to buy WM tickets.

When the new LA football stadium is built I think WWE will do a WM there. WWE doesnt give a shit about how old or crap the stadium is, as long as it can seat a lot of people. Expect to see a WM in Metrodome.

WWE draws awesome crowds to MSG and Air Canada Center, so I would imagine those would be highly regarded in a discussion such as this.

I don't care how long it takes I'd like to see Mania in Cowboys Stadium, hopefully not too much sooner than Mania in the Superdome.

Vancouver is apparently putting in bids to host it. I don't see how their chances are any less than Toronto after hosting the Olympics. Unfortunately, unless you're going to be somewhere indoors the rest of Canada has weather that's too spotty in that time of year.

I think a Summerslam in Calgary might turn out pretty well, even if you did the football stadium. Unfortunately the weather's usually pushing 35 degrees there in August.

I could see them testing the waters with one of their lesser PPVs in Mexico City. They did one in PR, so there's no reason they couldn't throw up a "HIAC", "MITB", "TLC" or even Summerslam in Mexico.

WWE didnt do a PPV outside of Toronto or Montreal in Canada since Backlash 2004.

WWE hasnt done a TV show in Vancouver since 1990s.

No way WM goes to Vancouver.

I think one of the main problems for Cowboys Stadium would be that giant video screen. They were afraid that thing might intefere with a game, I don't see it working out too well with all the rigging WWE uses above the ring, and I don't think they can just move the screen.

  32. #32
^No problem. WWE does rigging with all the arenas and they all have scoreboards up on the roof. Wont be that different, considering WWE does use much larger rigging if its indoor football stadium WM. Should be able to fit, plus WWE actually will save money by not having to put up a video board of their own, which if I remember correctly they did for WM 24.

It'd probably save WWE some money. Didn't they use a massive round screen at this year's WM?

You can't say it wouldn't be a wicked visual to see Randy Orton win and do his "Legend Killer" pose on the top rope only to have a giant Randy Orton doing it behind him.

It's not really set up for it, but the Marcus Amphitheater would be a great place to have a show in terms of look in Milwaukee. Summerfest/WWE...I'd go.

WM29 is supposedly in San Francisco. I dont know if theres a good venue in San Francisco.

I personally wanna see WM 30 from MSG, great way to top it off. Imaging Smackdown from Citi Feild, RAW from Yankee Stadium and than Wrestlemania 30 live from MSG, that would be a record breaker for sure. It's a dream but that would be fucking awesome!

    Thanks PIG E

Stop trolling. We all know TNA cant draw shit.

20000 seating arena doesnt necessarily mean 20000 for WWe anyway. Its closer to 15000-12000 because of the sttage, and normally WWE doesnt sell out. They come decently close, 12000 out of 15000, thats my estimate.

I don't buy the "Mania to San Fran" story for a second. When has the company ever announced a Mania venue that far in advance, especially when they haven't even announced the venue for the year before it?
