Fantasy Baseball - discuss all things fantasy baseball related here

Made a trade over the weekend

    I gave
    Zambrano
    Ike Davis
    David Freese

    I received
    Cameron Maybin
    Matt Capps

Freese and Davis were decent hitters just sitting on my bench. Zambrano, while on his way back to the rotation, still scares me, as I haven't gotten over opening day yet (cost me my only loss in my money league).

You guys think Capps is for real? Is Storen going to take the job from him sooner than later?

Question i've got Posada, Beltran, and possibly soon Ivan Rodriguez going on the DL. I only have two spots. Which one should I drop? or just ride Rod's DL stint, and bench him during it.

drop pudge. he is not worth DL'ing

As long as Washington is playing solid baseball, then I think Matt Capps is a good option. If the Nationals fall out of contention, then I can see Capps being traded to a contender and possibly losing the closer option with a new team. Just monitor the situation and you'll be fine.

Also, I agree with slap....drop Ivan Rodriguez (I just did on one of my teams today) because he's not worth putting on the DL, especially since you have Jorge Posada there as well. Pick up a catcher in the mid-term to fill in for Posada (i.e. Rod Barajas is a decent option right now that tends to be available in most leagues).

It's becoming sad, especially in light of the steroid era fading, to see the fantasy stars of yesteryear not being worth a shit on your team. Josh Beckett KILLED my team's ERA.

How you guys doing in your leagues?

I'm dominating both my money league and especially that lop budget league I'm in. 1st place in my division in both leagues and 1st in overall pts in both leagues.

I've been working the wire religously, especially in my money league, and it's paid off. I had quite a few draft picks that didn't pan out, but I found nice replacements on the wire, which isn't always easy to do in a 14 man league.

I'm currently in third in the LOP league. I was in 1st for a while and then I dropped, as my team has greatly underachieved. This is my team for the LOP league....

C - Kurt Suzuki (was Ivan Rodriguez while Suzuki was on the DL)
1b - Albert Pujols (his power slump is killing me right now)
    2b - Dustin Pedroia
    SS - Elvis Andrus
3b - David Wright (has been a K machine instead of the 5-tool guy I drafted)
    LF - Brett Gardner
    CF - Vernon Wells
    RF - Jason Werth
    UT - Torii Hunter

    BENCH
    Nick Markakis
    Jason Bay
    Ty Wigginton

Generally, I rotate guys in at utility and outfield based upon match-ups. I've had several guys underachieve (i.e. Markakis, Bay, etc.), which has hurt me offensively.

    STARTERS
    Adam Wainwright
    Josh Johnson
    Livan Hernandez
    Tim Hudson
    Mike Pelfrey
    Clay Bucholz

My starting rotation has been solid. Hernandez, Pelfrey, and Bucholz were all waiver wire pick-ups. Here's where it gets ugly....

    BULLPEN
    David Aardsma
    Octavio Dotel
    Jon Rauch
    Tyler Clippard
    Evan Meek
    Trevor Hoffman

I don't draft early when it comes to closers, because its one of the most unsettled positions in baseball throughout an entire season. I benched Hoffman in favor of Meek because my ERA and WHIP categories were taking a major hit each time he pitched (Dotel hasn't helped much either). As a result, I have three closers (two of which are on shitty teams) that pick up saves. I'm hoping Hoffman will come around eventually.

I also have Jair Jurrjens and Brad Lidge on the DL. I have a solid team, I just need to wait for them to come around. I'm going to give it until the all-star break before I start brokering some deals.

Should be playing wiggington. The guy just keeps producing.

I picked up Storen, just in case Capps falls apart. Storen actually puts up some nice fantasy pts as a middle reliever even.

In the ESPN fantasy league I am in with a bunch of ya, I am looking to trade.

I have a deep offensive team and need pitching.

Mark Reynolds is on my bench along with Carlos Gonzalez.

Hech Ty Willingham doesn't break my starting lineup.

    Konerko is my second 1B.

Give me a ring if ya want to negotiate.

EDIT: team name is "Santino's Balls"

I just picked up Ty Wigginton the other day and he's about to replace David Wright in my line-up. I read that Wigginton will probably replace Garrett Atkins at firstbase once Brian Roberts returns from the DL, so he's guaranteed playing time. I would like to trade Wright to pick up some bullpen help.

Have a lot of two-start options next week, along with 3 solid closers who all have 7 games next scoring period. Who would you start and why?

I'm in a 14 team H2H league. We can start any combination of RP's and SP's.

Scoring for pitching goes like this...

BBI - Walks Issued (Pitchers) -3 points
ER - Earned Runs -10 points
HA - Hits Allowed -5 points
HB - Hit Batsmen -3 points
    HD - Holds 5 points
    INN - Innings 15 points
    K - Strikeouts (Pitcher) 3 points
    L - Losses -15 points
    S - Saves 30 points
    W - Wins 30 points

Here's my tentative starting lineup for next week.

    Broxton (7 games)
    Capps (7 games)
Jimenez (obviously this guy starts no matter what. two-start week too!)
    Danks (@CLE against Masterson)
John Ely (2 starts, both at home vs. AZ - Haren and vs. ATL - Hudson)
Luke Hochevar (2 starts, both at home vs. ANA - Santanna and vs. DET - Verlander)
Hisanori Takahashi(2 starts, one on the road @SD against Correia, and the other at home against FL - Nolasco)

Here's who I have on my bench

    Andrew Baily (7 games)
Jeff Niemann (one start in Toronto vs. TBA)
CJ Wilson (one start at home against Tampa - Wade Davis)

Wilson and Niemann, while they've been solid, have tough matchups, so benching them for lesser two start pitchers with good matchups won't be that hard, but benching Baily who's been lights out and has 7 games is.

Would you guys start Baily over Takashi, Ely, or Hochevar? All three guys have been solid and have decent two start matchups?

    Seriously? You fucking robbed him.

Play Bailey --- the A's almost always seem to play close games.

Danks niemann and ely have been studs. He needed pitching. Now I have to bank on guys like wade Davis, hochevar, takahashi, and CJ Wilson in my rotation. Before my rotation was stout...now its a bit hairy

    Made another trade...

Youkills and wade Davis for billy butler/netfali feliz/Trevor Hoffman

  17. #17
Nice series of trades Slap. I like Billy Butler as a hitter and you've ultimately replaced Kevin Youkilis with Butler/Rodriguez, which is a bonus. Feliz will serve well in the bullpen and I think Hoffman is a bonus because Milwaukee won't give up on him and he'll come around.

Tell me Giants fans, i was offered Posey today in a keeper league for Hiroki Kuroda, no doubt i gotta make this deal right?

  19. #19
That last trade you pulled off Slap was a real nice on your part. I have a question could i pull the plug on Juan Rivera or keep riding him, and hoping he will finally turn it around?

Ozzie Guillen loves to send his guys to steal, so as long as Rivera can get on base, he'll be worthy of holding onto. His career avg is good so I think he'll come out of the funk.

So, Lind pissed me off, being the only Blue Jay apparently not taking roids and hitting bombs, so I traded him and Damon for Vazquez.

I think after Vazquez's 1 hit performance against the Jays yesterday, along with his recent turn around altogether, that Vazquez is set to turn his season around and be the stud that people drafted him to be. He was a cy young candidate last year, and has been a consistant KO pitcher his whole career. Plays for a pretty decent offensive team too....

My pitching rotation looks like this now...

    Jimenez
    Vazquez
    CJ Wilson
    Kris Medlen
    Broxton
    Baily
    Netfali Feliz

Not the monster pitching staff I had pre-AROD trade, but still nice. I hope Medlen sticks in the Atlanta rotation. If not, I have some other nice options on my bench though in Paulino, and Jonathon Niese. I also have dick face Capps who cost me a win last scoring period, hack fuck Hoffman on my bench. I don't know what to do with those guys. I can't just drop them, but I can't get a decent trade for them either. I have Storen on my bench too, as I'm hoping if Capps loses the closers gig, which now seems iminent, that Storen takes it over, not Clippard (who someone else owns). I have Hochevar too. I love his upside. Paulino is a flame throwing stud too who I think will come around, if he already hasn't.

Isn't Juan Rivera on the Angels?

I believe that you got a steal in Javier Vazquez, he'll come around and be supported by that Yankees' line-up. As for Kris Medlen, I would pay attention to his situation. As a Braves fan, I would prefer to see him stay in the rotation, as Lowe and Kawakami have been the worst in the rotation. Nevertheless, Derek Lowe's outrageous contract will keep him in the rotation and I think the same could possibly happen for Kenshin Kawakami, thus forcing Medlen back into the long relief role.

I've had Tyler Clippard on my team (starting because of his wins, low ERA/WHIP) all season, waiting for Capps to implode. I've read that Clippard and Storen will get the first shot at saves, but I haven't read anything pointing out one more so than the other.

I finally gave up on Trevor Hoffman and dropped him in favor of John Axford. I also had Brad Lidge come off of the DL, so Axford is currently on my bench. Here's my bullpen....

    Jon Rauch
    Octavio Dotel
    David Aardsma
    Tyler Clippard
    Brad Lidge
    John Axford (on bench)

I dropped Evan Meek, which may be a mistake in the long run (he was immediately picked up) because I needed to try to pick up points in the save categories. Clippard remains a starter because he balances out the ERA/WHIP categories that Dotel and Aardsma inflate. Ultimately, I'll have to continue to troll the waiver wire, as guys like Dotel and Aardsma may be traded at the deadline.

So, I went and sold Capps while I could (since he has 2 saves this week already)

I traded Capps and De La Rosa (on DL till early July) for Mike Pelfrey.

I just have to hope Pelfrey is for real. After 10 weeks, I have to think so, but I could seem him going back to what he was.

just curious, how is everyone doing in their teams? The playoffs are approaching and some leagues are one week from them starting.

Me, 4/5 are in the playoff hunt with 3 clinched.

One league even has a situation where there are 6 teams fighting for the final two playoff spots coming into the final week. The league only has 10 teams.

    Good luck to all.

won my division and have a first round bye in the playoffs in my league. The least amount of money I can win will be $450 ($250 buy in). If I win just one playoff game, the least I will take home will be $700. If I win the World Series, I will take home $1,150.

My team is in rough shape though, and I don't anticipate even winning one game. Jimenez is looking human, Broxton has tanked so bad he's been demoted to setup man. Carlos Santanna got knocked out for the season, and Miguel Olivo plays every 3rd game now and sucks whilst doing so (though AJ Pierzynski who I picked up 2 weeks ago has been solid for me the last two weeks). Beltre, who has been great for me, now has a sore hammy. Netfali Feliz is only getting like one save a week now. Baily gets like one save of month, if he's not injured. I could go on forever...

My team for a good bit was the best in the league, but injuries and meltdowns have set me up for an early departure from the playoffs.

The McGwire Mashers are in the playoffs and as of now I'm a 2 seed.
