Since we have this thread for every other type of media discussed here at LOP, it only makes sense to have one devoted to wrestling.
Edge vs. Kane-Vengeance '05: I watched the entire PPV, but this match really stood out for me. I don't know if I never noticed or just completely forgot, but this was a very good match. Kane was in prime form and Edge was still hungry. What's more is I thought Edge won this match, so I was legit shocked to see Kane win.
Chris Benoit vs. RVD- Summerslam '02: I watched this entire DVD too, and just like the last match I forgot how great it was. Apparently Eddie and Chris didn't let each other know that they were both going to be working the shoulder in their respective matches, but the story was still top notch.
John Cena vs. Randy Orton (Ironman match)-Bragging Rights '09: This match is a perfect showcase for Cena's character development. He went from feeling bad about dumping Edge off the ladder in their TLC match in '06 to actually thinking of ways to hurt Orton in this match. To me that just shows how, kayfabe wise, all this time at the top has hardened him up. It would be the better part of a year until he displayed this kind of intensity again (RE: attack on Darren Young). Excellent story told here and the match was perfectly paced from one spot to the next.
Randy Orton vs. "The Prototype" John Cena- OVW '01: Ok so after I watched the previously mentioned classic, I put the Cena DVD in to see these two greenhorns lock up almost a decade earlier. It would be unfair to actually rate this match, but there was little flashes of greatness that would be incorporated years later to make these guys the superstars they are today. Heel Cena beats a face Orton as in Orton's last match in OVW.

Last match I watched besides RAW last night was The Undertaker vs. Batista WHC match from Wrestlemania 23. Loved that match; remember how everyone was dreading that match before it happened cause neither Batista nor Taker would be mistaken for ring generals. However, those 2 went out and had an amazing ****+ match that was many people's MOTY and blew the roof off Ford Field. It kicked off a feud that went for months and gave several more classic matches (the LMS match from Backlash being my favorite).

I just watched Over the Edge '98 last night, so the last match I watched was Austin vs Dude Love for the WWF Championship - and it was freaking awesome!
A couple days ago I rewatched the Flair/Steamboat series from '89, and it's still the greatest series of matches I've ever seen. Id have to rank them 1. Wrestlewar 2. CotC6 - 2/3 Falls 3. Chi-Town Rumble.

Morishima vs. Daisuke Ikeda - NOAH "Navigation with Breeze" 2004
Straight-up hard hittin' puro. For the unitiated, Morishima is the one who looks like a chubby Japanese lesbian and Ikeda looks like the asshole who will punch you square in the teeth. Fun stuff, anybody who is a fan of the likes of Finlay will LOVE Ikeda. He's a personal favorite. Match is for the WLW (Harley Race's promotion based in Eldon, Missouri) title.

Shingo vs BxB Hulk.
BxB Hulk is the one who looks like a Japanese teenage girl's icon. A floppy fringed fop, who possibly uses moisturiser.
Shingo is the motherfucker who grounds all the flips and speed in Dragongate by laying down some serious beatings on people.
It's a hair vs hair match as part of a blood feud, where Shingo has promised to send BxB Hulk back to exhibition matches, and has already won a match to take away BxB Hulk's iconic dance.
And yeah, the right man wins.

This runs the risk of turning into carbon copy of the "online wrestling video thread". Let's talk about details you like/didn't like in the match you watched.

Just watched the entire Barely Legal pay per view. Matches were either hit or miss for me but they all had a different feel to them. The one the sticks out the most is the Michinoku Pro six man tag. The non stop action and fantastic team work always leaves me in awe. With all do respect to Dragon Gate, watching a match like this shows how a Dragon Gate may look a little too choreographed. The action in this match was fast paced but done in a realistic manner that never seemed too far fetched.

smarter-mark had a cool list of matches,
my favourite match of yesteryear, has got to be:
Stone Cold Steve Austin vs Shawn Michaels - King of the Ring 1997
>It was there 1st ever match against each other on pay per view
> They were opponents that night, whilst being the WWF Tag Team Champions (don't think that had been done before then)
> Both wrestlers were in their 'in ring' prime in my eyes back then (SCSA would suffer his broken neck months later which would ultimatley change his in ring style, most notably his selling of moves, and HBK was just the man bell to bell back then...
> The finish of the match was cool...both Austin & Michaels getting double DQed for beating up the officials (stunner here, super kick there!) and walking back up the ram together as if they were in a tag team match.
>All in all, a fine quality wrestling match
The Rock vs Chris Jericho - World Title Match - No Mercy 2001
>1st pay per view one on one for those two
>Jericho had SSSOOOOO much to prove
>Changing of the guard so to speak
>Jericho's eventual heel turn, oh so slightly was born that night...very subtle tho
>But the Match was booked as a face vs face, which i am a fan off, cos someones gota lose at the end of the day,
>Another Wrestling clinic of a match too
Any match involving Billy Gunn in 1999
Monday Night Raw 02.24.2003 number one contenders battle royal for Wrestlemania 19 which was one by Booker T, but was completely overshadowed by the Comedy and entertainment value of the heel, Hollywood returned, peoples champ...The Rock!
The Intercontinental title defenses of Randy Orton in the summer of 2004 against Shelton Benjamin at Badd Blood (June) and at Vengence (July) to Edge, to whom he lost, those matches pretty much set up his World Title win at Summerslam that year...in my opinion, all combatants became better out of those matches.
Undertaker vs Kane - the Smackdown after Wrestlemania 24
>I am a mark for Taker vs Kane, i dont know why but i get fascinated when tose two fight each other
>even more so in this match, because both were faces at the time, and were forced to wrestle each other
>both were Champions, WHC & ECW respectively
HHH vs HBK - Summerslam 2002
> HBK return match...NUFF SAID!
Stone Cold vs The Rock - Wrestlemania 15...17...19
>The best Rivalry of all time, can't beat it...
> I think the record book is what makes there wrestlemania rivalry and matches seem more, Austin gettin the first 2 Victories, Championship matches non the less, and The Rock getting the grudge win to close the chapter and book.
>Interesting enough, there middle match, 'mania '17, was the most physical intense hair raising wrestlemania main event match i had seen up till that point, and probably will ever see again...That match felt like it lasted hours!!!!!! but rightly so!

I recently watched the Orton/Foley hardcore match of Backlash 2004. That match is what brought me to the realization that Orton could hang with the big boys. Don't get me wrong, his feud with Foley was great stuff.
In fact, Foley put Orton over HUGE and is definitely one of the figures responsible in bringing him to the forefront of the main event scene today and developing character (kayfabe wise anyway). However that great buildup of a great heel in the making was severely lessened later that year when pushed too soon for the WHC against Benoit later that year.
Nonetheless, it was a great hardcore match as far as the story told, in ring quality, and the utter brutality Orton took from the hands of Cactus Jack himself, aka Mick Foley. King's commentary with JR made the match that much better as well.
Another match I watched before that was the Lesnar/Taker match at No Mercy via Hell in a Cell. At first watch years ago, I enjoyed the match greatly.
However over time it has aged well and holds great to this day. You can tell when a match is a great one/classic when as time goes on you enjoy it more now then you did back then. This is no different.
I actually missed a couple of things from the last time that I noticed this time around. Lesnar's brutal and raw style in the ring in this match made me realize just how good of a wrestler he was in his time in WWE. Even moreso now than then.
Taker and Lesnar utilized the elements of the cell very well and told a great story. Taker as Foley, put Lesnar over huge in this match without having to sacrifice looking weak coming out of the match. The ending never ceases to amaze me with Lesnar's BRUTE strength and the reversal was brilliant way to end a hellacious match. Great stuff that has me hoping Lesnar will consider at least a return appearance sometime in the future.

I watched the Ten Man Tag Match from Canadian Stampede on the Hart DVD the other day. It was Austin, Goldust, Ken Shamrock and LOD vs. The Hart Foundation (Bret, Owen, Davey Boy, Neidhart and Pillman). Reasons why this match is so great:
The match was in Calgary, so the crowd was unreal. Maybe the loudest arena for any match in WWE history.
It was the highwater mark of the whole USA vs. Canada feud of 1997
It started new feuds (Owen vs. Austin, Pillman vs. Goldust, Shamrock vs. Davey)
It really was the highwater mark for the Hart family as a whole as several family members said on the DVD. Within 2 months Pillman was dead; w/in three months the whole Montreal Incident occured with all the fallout that followed.
It had 2 HOFers (Bret and Austin) in the match with at least 6 more who will/oughta be in (Pillman, LOD, Neidhart, Owen and Davey)

Yesterday, I watched Eddie Edwards vs Davey Richards from ROH back in July, it was the TV Championship Tournament Final. What an amazing match from the two American Wolves. Some fantastic wrestling, and great story of oneupsmanship from the pair of them. I loved all 23 or so minutes of it. Probably a ****1/4 Star Match or thereabout. It's on Youtube, I highly recommend it.

Kings of Wrestling defeated Generation Me in Chicago at the last ROH show I attended in July. Great match. Wish the WWE could form a great tag team division and give a lot of wrestlers a chance to shine.

Watched Villano III v.Atlantis from their 01 Sky PPV. Mask v.Mask blowoff to what I found to be an entertaining feud. I remember feeling quite engaged during the course of their matches and especially during this one.
Plus quite a few blast from the past matches from the WWF(E), WCW, GWF, USWA, etc. Basically, the syndicated programs from my days of innocence. I LIVED off of those types of shows as a kid and continued having a strong like for them until WCW died. So from time to time I'll go ahead and watch some old matches from WWF Superstars of Wrestling, the various indies that were broadcast on ESPN or sportschannel America or the B& C shows from WCW on youtube. You'll come across a few matches and say "Man I never knew this guy would have evolved into what he did". Stuff like Meng smashing a young Edge on WCW Pro. Nash with some of the lame ass gimmicks he had in the early 90s. The young Lightning Kid, Harlem Heat, Jerry Lynn, and Buff Bagwell back when they were in GWF. I remember watching the series of matches between the Kid and Jerry Lynn and feeling like those guys were awesome but had no way of knowing that in a few years they'd be where they eventually went. Youtube is a great great invention lol. I'm just hoping someone uploads some IWCCW. Not the greatest promotion ever but they had a couple of guys who went on to become wrestlers of note.

Much love for the links. Timing is good too, because my roommate's buddy and his girlfriend are in town (they all went out drinking, I'm moving in two weeks and don't need to drop a bill bar-hopping) and in about an hour I'm going to need something to drown out the sound of 4 people fucking.
Well, something other than tequila, that is.

Remember it well, what's amusing is that they are just working kinks out and getting into their stuff, and the wrestling and the colour announcing from Barrett is far superior to most matches that'll be on tv this year.
Well worth seeing that one for anyone that hasn't. Saxton doing lead commentator is the weakest bit of it all. And even that is okay.
This is wrestling should be the chant.
