Heading to sydney later this week and hitting up the following gigs at the Sydney Opera House:

Boris (two shows)
Lou Reed (Metal Machine Trio)
Bardo Pond
Melt-Banana

And a special Noise Night show feat. Boris, Melt-Banana, Bardo Pond and others.

Boris are my favourite live band, so I'm super psyched about seeing them perform three gigs in a week...

I'm going to see Gwar next month so I'm pumped about that! I'm hoping to see Ween this summer as they have not hit this area of NY in a few years and am hoping that changes.

I miss going to smaller shows; haven't been to one in awhile. Problem is, all the shows around here fall on fucked up days like a Tuesday or Wednesday. Not only is it a bitch to get a babysitter in the middle of the week for late night but also takes away from some of the fun if you got to rush home to get some sleep before work.

Pissed though that I didn't find out that Mastodon and Between the Buried and Me played 30 minutes from my house until the day after the show though. That's some super weak shit. Still not as bad as finding out that Behold...the Arctopus played a free show at a bar on my birthday pretty close to my house about a hour after the show ended. I just have terrible luck with that shit now.

EDIT: Buddy of mine is trying to drag me to see Kid Rock (whom I despise) this Summer. Says he's really good live but fuck that, I've literally never heard a song of his that was shit. I'd go for free just to get hammered and hang out but I'm not too down for paying larger venue prices to see someone I hate.

You're not talking about the Knoxville show from last Friday night are you?

Nah, they played Richmond either on a Saturday or Sunday. I haven't seen Mastodon since they released Crack the Skye (missed them twice now) and I've only seen BTBAM live once. I'd thought about hitting up the AIC, Deftones, Mastodon tour but I don't really want to see AIC and I'm sure Mastodon will play a short set.

Just checking. I know East Tennessee meets Virginia somewhere... not too sure about that side of the state, though. I was supposed to go to the show in Knoxville the other night, but my daughter had a softball game that night followed by three more on Saturday.

If I had the money, I'd follow BTBAM straight up like a Dead-head.

I wanted to see Roger Waters and the Wall tour, but the cheapest seats I could find was $199.

Fuck that.

I'm also seeing Iron Maiden/Dream Theater, but on June 26th. Gonna be so fucking epic.

Then I'll be anxiously awaiting "The Final Frontier", so Maiden can show everyone how heavy metal is done.

I actually go to a lot of concerts, a couple of bands I have seen so far are below.

Puddle of Mudd (final show)
Saliva
Adelitas Way
Shamman's Harvest
Marcy Playground
Seven Mary Three
Sponge
Hootie and The Blowfish
Cowboy Mouth
Korn

Probably several other local bands, but in Nashville most concerts are dirt cheap to go see.

I am itching for a good concert, but no one good as come around here since before the flood. Taylor Swift is the best we have gotten, and I didn't go see her perform. Most shit that comes through that I want to go to like WWE Live events happen on Fridays, which are a bitch for me to get off work..

Been to quite a few concerts though.

Motley Crue w/ Cheap Trick
KISS twice
Weird Al like 4 or 5 times,
Various Christian bands that no one cares about on LOP.

Just got back from the Download Festival at Donington here in the UK. AC/DC, Aerosmith, Rage Against The Machine, Slash, Megadeth, Billy Idol, Them Crooked Vultures, Killswitch Engage and Steel Panther. That was just most of the bands I managed to see.

AC/DC's show alone was worth the price of the festival. Usually there are 3 or 4 different stages that all the bands play on throughout the weekend. The biggest bands get to play the main stage and lesser bands get the other stages. Not this time though. AC/DC had their own stage built just for them. I've never seen that before. At 8pm on Friday, all other stages (including the main stage) stopped playing music. All 100,000 people at the festival surrounded the AC/DC stage and they rocked for 2 hours. I managed to get about 50m away from the stage.

But you seen them twelve times already. Are they/Is he really that good live?

BeyondKnight
06-21-2010, 03:03 PM
Yes, they are always that good live and if they are really amped they are nothing short of amazing. If you like that style of music however. The folk, jazz, bluegrass fusion style they've got going on is to me, just plain awesome. Totally worth every cent.

I dunno, I guess I just dig that raw natural sound. Guitar, sweet violin and a couple pieces of brass. Good times.

So, by random happenstance I went to see Jace Everett (aka the guy who does the opening theme to True Blood) tonight. He's surprisingly good, though the rest of his music is a lot more bluesy than that particular song.

Bullshitted with him and his band after the show, turns out dude is not just gay, but like some kind of turbocharged ultra-gay, the type of gay that only Zuma is familiar with. Damn good show though, check him out if he hits your local dive bar.

Growing up my favorite shows were local shows. It's hard to believe for a lot of people who have been there, but Joplin Missouri had one hell of a punk rock scene during the early to mid 1990's.... there were still some great bands after that period (still a couple good ones in fact) but that was the prime period of the local music scene.

There were countless local bands that put on great shows and then all sorts of touring acts... everyone from Sloppy Seconds to The Queers to Marky Ramone and The Intruders to even GG Allin came through. Good times and if anyone wants some free music to listen to, a guy who used to be involved with the scene has chronicled it and has a lot of free albums you can download in mp3 form.

http://ozarkpunkrock.blogspot.com/

My favorite live band overall though would have to be Fishbone. Always a great energetic show, so mad that I missed them a month or so ago when they played in St. Louis. Would have gladly drove the 300 plus miles. I check the shows on a fairly regular basis and somehow this one flew under the radar.

Here's two live videos of the band, both from the last time I saw them (3rd time total).. City Museum in St. Louis a few years ago on the day before Thanksgiving. A burlesque troop opened for them that night. It's also the same place that I missed them at this time.

Just got back from Iron Maiden, and holy fucking shit, what a show.

All of the members are in their early to mid 50's, and still have more energy then most metal bands today. They look like they have fun when they perform, and it's obvious they adore their fans.

Dream Theater, the opener, was excellent as well for the short set they got.

10/10. UP THE IRONS!

*Head explodes*

I gather you're in Joplin then (I'll be floating at Noel next weekend, weather permitting). The Brown Derby by MSU's campus stocks Brewery Ommegang's Ommegeddon, give it a go the next time you're over in Springvegas. We do have one band with a shitload of punk cred here in Southwest, and they are of course The Skeletons. I used to talk to Lou back in the day when I went to Domino Kings shows.

Got to see a couple of my favorites last night for free.

Lucero - 'Sweet Little Thing (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b-RhFaRFB1g)' (they were awesome too)

The Old '97s - 'New Kid (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jBU3Tv7yZvw)'

I strongly recommend "Anjalee" by Lucero.

EDIT: Hell, that song's on the Youtubes (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c1l-isCAuxQ&feature=related).

Went to Warped Tour yesterday in Milwaukee. I wouldn't have gone if it wasn't free, but it was. Decent show. Face to Face was sweet. I always enjoy watching Alkaline Trio and The Dillinger Escape Plan. Got to watch Bring Me The Horizon from the stage (say what you want about them. Good dudes) so my little cousin thought that was amazing. Then we I got hang backstage with the BMTH boys and bullshit with them. It was a nice day made better by how excited my cousin was.

My brother bought me tickets to see A Tribe Called Quest perform last night. Fucking incredible. I'd heard that Q-Tip was amazing live, but he went by all of my expectations. Kool Keith from Ultramagnetic MCs opened with a pretty damn solid set (played all of his all Ultramagnet MCs stuff, barely any of his solo stuff) and then DJ Maseo from De La Soul played an insanely good set. He really got the crowd pumped up. But hearing Check The Rhime, Can I Kick It, Start It Up (which was an awesome opening) and Award Tour live was just awesome. Phife Dawg has piled on a few though. Awesome concert, though, doubt they'll ever be back in Aus again.

Kool Keith live RULES IT. When I saw him, he came out on stage in an astronaut's helmet, Elvis wig, and a cape, and he threw out old porno mags and Ziploc bags containing a piece of fried chicken and a juice box to the crowd.

^Isn't Kool Keith the guy that did a song with Tom Waits?

I've got a major 6 months coming up... Alexisonfire in October, Metallica in November, Iron Maiden in February and the Soundwave festival in March.

For those who aren't from Down Under... the Soundwave festival lineup looks like this...

Iron Maiden headlining, Queens Of The Stone Age, Slayer, Primus, Slash, Stone Sour, 30 Seconds To Mars, Avenged Sevenfold, Rob Zombie, Social Distortion, Gang Of Four, New Found Glory, Pennywise, Sum 41, Anberlin, The Gaslight Anthem, Third Eye Blind (yeah, I didn't know they still existed either), DevilDriver, Sevendust, Less Than Jake, The Bronx, Monster Magnet, Terror, MXPX, Protest The Hero, Melvins, 36 Crazyfists, Ill Nino, The Ataris, The Starting Line, All That Remains and then some....

Biggest festival lineup I've seen in this country.
