Get this started again.

Honestly? So far this year has been utter shit for me as far as music goes. Normally I check the new releases every Tuesday, check up on bands that seem interesting then DL their shit. I have DLed three albums since...maybe February that have come out this year. No one has come out with shit I have been remotely interested in.

Add that to the fact that two of my FAVORITE bands, Number 12 and Isis, broke up and fuck it , this year blows.

Nothing is even coming around here tour-wise. BLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEH

So far, I've dug "Mechanize" by Fear Factory, "Sting in the Tail" by Scorpions, "The Oracle" by Godsmack, "Chasing the Grail" by Fozzy, "Fever" by Bullet for my Valentine... and really, that's it. A lot of good stuff, one mind blowing album ("Mechanize") and some pretty mediocre stuff.

Still looking forward to "Scream" by Ozzy Osbourne and "The Final Frontier" by Iron Maiden.

I havn't bought a single album yet this year, and probably won't until Recovery hits stores in June.

Yeah this year has been pretty meh so far. Really dug Fear Factory's latest, new Deftones, new Ihsahn and new Shooter Jennings. Those have been the main standouts so far. Little behind on the albums in May but I'll catch up. Am looking forward to getting the new Melvins and new Dax Riggs though later this Summer.

Agreed... I actually thought 2009 was a good year for new music, possibly the best of the 2000's.

Yeah 09 was pretty underrated IMO, I bought a ton of albums last year most of which ranged from good to great. This year not so much. Though I did forget to mention the High on Fire and Bison B.C. albums both which were damn good.

Anyone remember how late into the year Them Crooked Vultures was released last year and the majority of the forum collectively lost their minds?

November.

It's the end of May, still 7 full months to go.

Anyone listen to "Plastic Beach" by Gorillaz? I've enjoyed "Stylo", but I haven't checked any other song off the album out.

Yeah, I heard most of it and on one of the rare occasions with music I turned it off, didn't enjoy it at all.

Funny thing is, it'll probably happen again. TCV is supposed to be putting out another album this year. There is also new Genghis Tron (I keep forgetting about that) and I'm real curious about Reznor's new project How to Destroy Angels; their E.P. comes out in July. There is definitely good stuff coming out I'm just not used to it taking so long before it happens. February had been a pretty good month for a few years (think both Crack the Skye and Board Up the House came out in Feb.) this year not so much.

The Nas & Damian Marley album is hot.

The B.o.B. album is fucking bananas.

That alone makes 2010 good for hip-hop so far.

Yeah, the only thing keeping me going is Genghis Tron.

Oooh, I forgot the Talib/Hi-tek album. That shit any good?

Also I liked Them Crooked Vultures, but it wasn't "blow me away" like.

You should listen to Superfast Jellyfish , Melancholy hill and White Flag. Great songs, great album, but it takes a few listens to it to really enjoy the album. Demon Days is better imo.

2010 has sucked thus far with the deaths of Peter Steel and Ronnie James Dio.

But it should be a great year for concerts with Iron Maiden/Dream Theater, The Big Four (Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax, Slayer), and Roger Waters performing The Wall.

Hey guys, im Idols & Anchors. Decided to change my name to an easier one. It is still a Parkway Drive song title. Sleepwalker is currently up on their myspace and the new album is out soon!

I have to disagree with everybody saying this year has sucked. So far we've had new albums from Bleeding Through, Dillinger Escape Plan, As I Lay Dying with new albums from Parkway, Amity Affliction, The Acacia Strain, The Ghost Inside, Haste The Day and Whitechapel all to come within the next couple of months! I know not everybody digs metalcore but holy crap its an awesome time to like that style of music right now.

Styxx
05-25-2010, 09:45 AM
I'll touch on Metalcore in the metal thread.

As I said earlier with 7 months essentially to go it's pretty misguided to say the year has sucked as whole.

Although October might be a fair time if nothing big happens. There are probably a couple dozen bands that will release something of value and it hasnt even been announced yet.

Styxx

Double post but Metal Death has it's 3.

Paul Gray aka #2 and bassist for Slipknot is dead.

Ok now my faith in the year is cracking.

I do need to check out the new Dead Weather and Mike Patton albums, their on my "list".

New Electric Wizard huh? Fucking sweet. Had no idea. Wish fucking Sleepytime Gorilla Museum would put out a new album this year.

05-25-2010, 08:17 PM
Aside from a couple of tracks, I wasn't that impressed with The Dead Weather's debut album last year, but their new one is just quality; fucking dirty, bluesy rock 'n' roll. Werd on Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, haven't heard anything on them for ages. :shrug2:

THE MONKEY

I agree. Dead Weather's debut was okay but there was enough tracks to make me interested in a new one.

Sucks about SGM, loved their last album but then they kind of went silent. Still tour but very sporadically.

New Mike Patton is so weird, even for him. It's pretty great.

Best album of the year so far is Diamond Eyes by Deftones. Hands Down.

With Pen...Deftones : Diamond Eyes is my best album to be released this year.

Albums from 2010 I highly recommend other then Diamond Eyes...

B.O.B. : The Adventures of Bobby Ray

Coheed and Cambria : Year of the Black Rainbow

Wiz Khalifa : Kush & Orange Juice

The Dillinger Escape Plan : Option Paralysis

Oh fuck, how'd I forget DEP?!

I like Diamond Eyes, but prefer DEP. That's me though, they're one of my favorite bands.

I really haven't followed music much at all this year. However this guy josiah leming kinda crept up on me. He was cut from season 7 of American Idol but never noticed since I don't watch it. I was checking him out do a live set on stickam.com on Sunday night. he was going to town on that piano, many people in the chat were telling him to calm down or he was about to knock the piano over. I just couldn't stop watching. People were mentioning that he looks like a retard while he plays. I guess he does but its nice to see so much passion put into his music. :)

I found the Them Crooked Vultures to be a bit overrated. Maybe I had too high of expectations. But this year, or at least, the end of last year to this year has been really slim pickings. I really enjoyed the Fozzy cd and feel that if people gave them a chance, they'd be huge. Many rock musicians have nothing but great things to say about the CD. The Flyleaf cd was ok, but nothing like the first cd they came out with. I really enjoyed the new Rob Zombie CD. That shit was really good and a lot better than his last stuff. I can't wait to see him in concert again.

B.O.B. : The Adventures of Bobby Ray

LoL. Just making sure BoB gets his props. Best album Ive gotten in years.

In a completely different genre, Trampled by Turtles - Palomino, is worth checking out if you're into something different. Its like Bluegrass/Folk mixed with Metal's speed but without a drummer. Ive been really into their music lately after discovering them via Pandora. Mizzu, I reckon you'd dig them, they sing about whisky, women and whatnot.

I plan on copping the first album you mentioned. Jr.Gong on any song, album or video guarantees my support lol. Plus I've always had love for Nas. Tempted to go Blackbeard on it, but I wanna acquire it the right way. Same with that B.o.B(think Brills linked me with it on the old board)

I actually bought the BoB mp3 album cause I couldn't get a link to work. best 8 bucks I ever spent, Only one track on there is one I don't play over and over.

Get it NOW, BK!

If someone could please hook me up with the Nas/Marly album, I'd be really greatful. I love anything Nasir Jones does

Where did you buy it online?? I usually don't have this "fits of conscious" when it comes to acquiring stuff. But I'd really like to support good music especially from artists that haven't really established themselves just yet. When they start buying that Rolls Royce Phantom and poppin bottles of overpriced champage, then "Arrrrrrrgh, Matey"

I got it on amazon, with the digtial art work as well. The only thing I didn't like is it accidently gave me two copies. Which made the dl longer.

Honestly? I'm not liking it as much as all you guys are. I just...there's something about it that bugs me, I think it's the heavy R&B influence because I normally dislike R&B beats or...fuck, I dunno. I'm just not feeling it. Likin' the new Talib/Hi-def a lot more.

Decided to finally play catchup on some music since I hadn't ordered anything for awhile.

As I Lay Dying "The Powerless Rise"
Brain Drill "Quantum Catastrophe"
The Melvins "The Bride Screamed Murder"
Mike Patton "Mondo Cane"
Misery Index "Heirs to Theivery"
Sage Francis "Life"
Solution .45 "For Aeons Past"
Soulfly "Omen"
The Sursiks "I Didn't Know I Was Singing"

Should give me some stuff to get me out of my music slump plus next week I got the new Nevermore, Leng T'che, Kingdom of Sorrow, and the live one by The Haunted.

EDIT: So I picked up the new Dead Weather and Kingdom of Sorrow albums. Xav was right, new Dead Weather is world's better than their last one and I'm only a few tracks in. This is what I wanted from their debut.

Picked up Scream by Ozzy Osbourne and Recovery by Eminem, both are excellent.

Scream is typical Ozzy, nothing groundbreaking, but good stuff and Recovery, IMO is some of Em's best work.

Yeah new Eminem is ridiculous. I'm trying to catch up on music now, had too much show up at once. Did listen to the new Sage Francis and it's just alright IMO. Few good tracks but it was pretty disappointing. Little Houdini is an awesome track though. Dig the Mondo Cane album a good deal too.

Oni, you should check out that Sursiks album I referenced above might be up your alley. The concept is the band uses voice mail messages people left on their answering machine as the main vocal track of the song and then the music is typically jazz and rock; pretty decent. I love "Slashin' Your Own Tires."

Might be a little late with this, but 2010 in music can't go wrong as Mark Kozelek, under his Sun Kil Moon name, released his new album: Admiral Fell Promises. I almost jizzed myself when the delivery guy rang the doorbell.

Also, "The Beautiful Sounds of Revenge" by Lo-Pro was released. Awesome, awesome album. I actually never heard of them, but downloaded it to give it a try. I instantly fell in love with it. I ordered it right after my first listen.
